Appearance: Katie is 5'6", with an average build, though narrow hips. She has short blond hair which she usually slicks back to keep it out of her face. She has blue-gray eyes and pale skin. A friend once commented that if Katie ever wore anything other than a pair of blue jeans and a white shirt, hell would freeze over. This is, in fact, mostly true. Granted, she'll wear black pants and a nicer shirt for formal occasions, and she has a couple different colored jackets, but most of her wardrobe is jeans and white shirts. Somehow she still pulls this off.

History: Katie was raised on First Centauri by her father and his partner Christopher, in one of First Centauri's biggest cities. One of her biggest treats as a child was visiting her birth mother who lived out in the country. Katie loved the wide open area and freedom to move around. She vowed that when she grew up, she'd move out of the city and into a farm, a dream her birth father shared. However, he was busy fighting in the Nathi wars, so such a dream was just talk.

Katie didn't discover art until high school, since that's when she convinced her fathers to let her go to private school and not the military schools she'd attended until then. She first latched onto painting with a fervor and natural skill that impressed and even kind of frightened her teachers. Then her birth mother introduced her to pottery one summer, which Katie adopted like a fish to water. She decided she wanted to move out of the city as soon as possible and go to art school. Then tragedy stuck the family.

Kevin was injured and forced into early retirement, which he resented. A few months later Christopher died of food poisoning. Both Kevin and Katie were hit hard by this. Their life was slowly starting to fall apart when the call went out for colonists for Pern. It was a chance for Kevin to fulfill his lifelong dream of escaping the cities and owning a farm. Since he was a vet of the Space Wars, he could and did claim a stake, and brought Katie with him.

Once on Pern, Katie set herself up as an artist and potter, even doing some work with the scientists on Pern-specific clays and pigments. When Thread hit, and there was the mass exodus North, her father went, leaving Katie with the stakehold. Unable to manage all the land herself and especially unable to defend it against Thread, she sold most of it off except for her studio and the house.

Personality: Katie is a quiet, even-keeled kind of girl. While she tends to attract loud and boistres friends, she's usually the one sitting and laughing quietly while everyone else is in uproarious laughter. She keeps her thoughts to herself for the most part, rarely showing extremes of emotion. People complain that she is hard to understand or even that she is cool. She usually prefers to watch others.
