Physical Description: Cooper stands at about 6'1, and is an extremely powerful looking man. It's more than just his thickly muscled arms, and barrel chest. It's in the way he carries himself. Cooper is the type of person who owns any room he walks into.

His hair is dark and curly, something that he keeps cut very close to his skull. His eyes are a nice color of brown and set back in his head. His nose is a little large and blunt.

Personality: Had he been born on earth in the twentieth century, Cooper would have made a wonderful spiritual leader. Not because of any religion, but because whenever he talks, he has a way of preaching. His words come out in a half singing, half commanding way that tends to capture everyone's attention and _hold_ it.

Despite this, he's a fairly easygoing man. Animals are his specialty, and he has a way with them that's very close to uncanny. Quick to smile, and quicker to laugh, he is not one to have enemies because he tends to disarm people right away.

A very good teacher, he nevertheless keeps a very close eye on his students. Too many time, he has had animals get more sick than they've should have been, even died, due to human error. His main goal is to eliminate that and to train up the best people as possible.

On politics and most matters outside of work, he remains mostly quiet and merely observes. He does have his hopes for the dragon project, and wonders if they will be as prolific of a species as the fire lizards.

Background: Cooper was born in Australia on Earth while his parents were looking for work. A few months after he was born, they eventually found a house outside of Seattle and settled there.

The eldest child out of eleven (so far), Cooper had to learn how to deal with babies very quickly. Despite the fact that his family was large, there was a lot of love to go around, and he never lacked for anything except personal space.

His parents put a lot of responsibility on his head at an early age, and he took it up easily and enforced it in the children. To this day, his sibs still look up to him as one of the heads of the family.

He was twenty-four when his parents signed up to be in the colonists for Pern, and of course, had the option to stay on Earth. But he knew that life could be better on Pern, and his profession would be more needed, so he went along with them.

Life on Pern has suited him well. He finished up his residency and fell in love with a woman named Helen. Within a few years, he and Helen were engaged to be married.

But their relationship was a rocky one, and both of them had affairs on the side at different times. Eventually, they realized that things were not going to work out, and they broke up. They still see each other occasionally, and it's always awkward.

Cooper was having a viewing on surgery on a prize horse when thread started falling. He and a few students were lucky enough to get inside a building in time, but the horse along with some other livestock were lost.

One other brother was caught out in the jungle and never came back home.

Since then, life has taken on a more serious tone for him. Cooper often thinks back on the time before thread fondly, because it was a time with relatively fewer worries.

However, when the choice came to either move up north or stay in the south, Cooper was adamantly for staying. He knew there was no decent life for him hiding up among the rocks. plus, he had always hated the cold.

He has taken up being part of the ground crew with vigor, and takes it very seriously. For him, it's more than just another duty. It's a second job, almost a hobby. As for the dragon project, he is hopeful, although fails to see how the dragons will be able to flame thread better than the sleds currently do.
