Name/Nicknames: Artemis Wagner/Arty
Gender: female
Rank/Position: Veterinarian
Age: 27
Birthplace: Ashland, Wisconsin/Earth

Physical Description: Artemis is short, only reaching 5'3", and quite petite. She seems rather delicate, with high cheek bones and nimble limbs. Her hair is short, falling to just under her ears, and pitch black in color. It's straight as a stick, and she is constantly brushing it from her eyes, tucking it behind her ears. She has large, wide eyes, a pale gray-green in color, sitting beneath thin, finely arched brows. Her complexion is fairly pale, so she usually takes precautions to keep from burning. She can usually be seen in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, a white lab coat always following her around somehow, whether she's wearing it or has it slung over her arm.

Personality: Since her mother died, she's gone from being an open and friendly person to a somewhat cold, aloof character. Outside of the professional relationships she shares with her colleagues and patients, she has few. When it comes to discussing anything of a personal nature, she's quite bad at it, either coming off as harsh and uncaring, or shy and scared. It's usually more of the former than the latter. The few friends she does have are the only ones who know the true Artemis: kind, caring, and always willing to lend a helping hand. While she likes helping others, she is horrible at asking for it herself, so it usually takes someone confronting her before she'll admit anything.

Her election into candidacy for the next clutch of dragon eggs on the sand made Arty step back and take a critical look at who she was. If she wanted to Impress, she was going to have to get used to being around, and socializing with, other people. Thus started her reluctant campaign into social events. Slowly, she's becoming a more personable being, reverting back to the friendly person she once was. She didn't realize how much she'd missed actually talking and making friends with other people...

Background: She came on the Pern expedition with her mother, who was a nurse, and she was sixteen when they first landed. An excellent student, both she and her mother thought Pern would be an excellent opportunity for her to expand her knowledge, and to hopefully assist her in gaining a higher education than just high school. Artemis was an avid animal lover, and the thought of helping to discover and possibly aid all sorts of new species was an opportunity she just couldn't pass up.

Life on Pern was exactly as she had expected it to be. Having been an advanced student, she was allowed to begin her undergraduate studies quite soon after arrival, and began actually training to become a vet when she was twenty. It was then, as a gift from her mother, that she received a tiny gray fluffball. The fluffball was actually a cat, a Russian Blue as the breed was called. At first, Arty was at a loss for a name, the kitten not having many personality complexes outside of being cute, cuddly, and most amazing of all, tooth-achingly sweet. It was only after an unfortunate incident with some little gadget that she earned the name Gizmo.

The next four years of her life ran smoothly, she and her mother sharing one of the cots on the beach. Her mother occupied the smaller downstairs room while Arty had a bed in the upstairs room, which doubled as their library of sorts. They were both avid book collectors. Artemis continued her studies, and took her certification exam when she was twenty four. As a gift, Beth took her daughter to a fire-lizard hatching, where Arty Impressed not one, but two of the flits. She was ecstatic, and there was no way life could get any better for her. She didn't know how right she was.

Shortly after she attained her license, Thread fell. In the panic of trying to get those already injured who might have been saved indoors, Beth Wagner was killed. It was a stunning blow to Arty, but in all of the chaos and activity that was going on, she didn't have proper time to grieve. In order to keep functioning for the massive preparations, clean-up, and planning for what they would have to do, she had to push it to the back, bury it under work.

The next two years progressed much in the same way, Artemis busying herself in her work to forget her emotional pain. To her, the grief of one is outweighed by the needs of their Hold, the need to build their renewable air-force.

The chance to become a dragonrider: it was something she hadn't thought about in depth, but when the call went out for candidates for the latest clutch, Arty seriously considered it. She applied, not really expecting to make it, and was shocked when she did. Of course, this also started her endeavors out into the 'real world' trying to interact with people. If she Impressed, her life would depend on being able to work with others.

That day on the sands was the most nerve-wracking in her entire life. There were so many eggs, and even more candidates. How could she even hope to Impress? It took a lot of will-power to keep from simply running away, and in the end, it was worth it. Green Sotrekoth claimed her, and now she finds herself in an emotional bond without explination. It's going to take a while to cope, and if she doesn't learn how, it can only mean trouble.

Family/Friends: Name/age/rank/location Beth Wagner/43/nurse/deceased

Hobbies & Skills: Arty enjoys reading and writing, and has an immense love for animals. When she's not doing one, she can be found with the other.

If your persona were a song, the title: Eleanor Rigby

Pets: Two fire-lizards and a cat. The cat, one Gizmo by name, is a Russian Blue, one of the smaller cat species. She's quite the loveable, huggable feline, and is content to sleep at home all day. The fire-lizards, on the other hand, often help Artemis at work. She finds that they can help calm a frantic pet-owner, or another frantic fire-lizard, for that matter. They are a brown and a blue, both mentasynth-enhanced. The brown, Cello, who was named for his mahogany brown hide and exceedingly deep voice, has an affinity for 'singing'. It's not music, per say, but it does seem to have a calming effect on most. Sebastian, the blue, has a tendancy to make people laugh. He's clumsy on the ground, and will trip over just about anything in his walking space. Not only that, but he grumbles to himself as well, as if it's everyone else's fault that he fell over. The duo provide an adequate destraction for the worried animal lover, so that Artemis can work without having to worry about calming a frantic owner.

Dragon's Name: Sotrekoth
Age: Infant (hatched 12.3.11)
Color: Green
Physical Description: As all infant dragons are, she's small and gangly. Her head is a little large for her body, as per normal, and her wings are even more so. Her hide is a healthy shade of grass-green, which fades to a lighter, mottled green on her hindquarters and tail. Her wingsails mottle into a darker shade, especially at the tips.

Personality: So far, Sotrekoth seems to have a childlike fascination with the world. If she sees something that interests her, she wants to know what it is, what it smells like, if it's edible, and she wants to know *now*. She's also fiercly protective of her person; she doesn't get along very well with any of Arty's pets, and when one of the other dragonets gets too close, she gets especially agitated. The same can be said of most other humans, as well. There's no way she'll let anyone steal her chosen away!
