Oddysselya 1 Translation

Game screens:

Oddysselya is a nice-looking RPG. Actually, this game was translated to English by Vic Tokai. It was scheduled for a summer 1994 release in the US under the title, "The Lost Mission". Similar to the NES version of EarthBound, this game got cancelled just prior to release. Too bad, it looks like a nice RPG, and the US could use more of those.

I have no idea how to make a script. I could send somebody bits and pieces of dialouge, hand typed, and they could translate them and send them back. If anybody would be willing to do it that way, I would be glad. The game appears hackable, but with some strangeness in the ROM.

Dude! What were the Vic Tokai programmers on when they made this? The one screenful of text I tried inserting is filled with control codes right in the middle of the text. Also, when I change one word, it appears to change every string everywhere else in the ROM. Maybe I guess I should continue work on ActRaiser (F) as this is somewhat similar.

Non-dialouge stuff should insert fine, but the dialouge system needs work. This may require assistance. I don't know how, but somehow. Give me a few days to think this one over.

What I would like, is if somebody could figure out how the pointers work for the dialouge text. I have a nice piece of opening dialogue that has been translated, and if I could figure out the pointers, I would insert. Non-dialouge text is coming along nicely. I'll get some screens up soon.

HELP NEEDED:

Here's a couple more shots:

Item Names expanded. Lower-right menu of main menu screen is encoded. Item name limit is 9 chars, but with icons (auto-added), limit is 8.

Buying screen.                                            Name expansion!

The one piece of dialouge I did insert! And because I can't get the dialouge pointers figured, the rest of the dialouge text is screwed! Please somebody send a description of the dialouge pointers! Hopefully somebody'll be able to help move the dialouge text to an area of the ROM with more space (like the end). Please help a ROM hacker in need!

Then I might be able to extend the amount of text there is. Original translation of this scene (from Simon):

Kyle: Dammit! How many apes are there? There's no end to this.

SCRIPT DOWNLOADS:

Sample script. Covers the text after the intro battle, and some dialouge of the first town.

OK, this link doesn't appear to work, even though it's right. E-mail me if you are interested, and I'll send you that.
