Recap:

The El Paso Steel behind the 3 hit pitching of Sonny Perkins, run ruled New Image of Wisconsin 7-0 to walk away with the "A" Championship. Perkins also had 3 hits in the game out of the clean up spot in the order, while racking up 8 strikeouts in the five inning final.

The Steel jumped on losing pitcher Jeremy Holman in the first when Albert homered to right center with two out in the first. El Paso waited until the fourth before they put three runs on the board, and adding the final three spot in the fifth to close out the game.

Both teams drew first round byes on Sunday. New Image routed Cedar Ridge, Utah 10-1 in the quarters, while El Paso drupped Los Apaches of Phoenix 9-2 to advance to the semi. The two teams easily shut down their opponent, New Image took an 8-1 defeat over the Los Angeles Heat, and the Steel shut out San Diego 7-0, who had just escaped with a 13-6 win in 10 innings over the Arizona Naturals in one of the most exciting games of the tourney.

Tournament Recap:

Yucaipa Bombers capture "AA" crown over Quest,
      El Paso Steel shuts out New Image, Wis. for "A" title.

Panafilo Valdez of the Yucaipa, Cal. Bombers, tossed a six hitter in 
shutting down Quest Fastpitch of Lakewood, Cal. 7-1 in the "AA" final of 
the NAFA Sanctioned, 2002 Southern Nevada "Fall Classic" played at Russell 
Road Complex in Henderson,   November 9 & 10.
        Valdez held the tough Quest hitters scoreless through six innings 
before Alan Webb singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Older 
brother Ryan, who sufferred the loss, then singled putting runners on first 
and second. The younger Webb, scored on a wild pitch for Quest only run.
       The Bombers were held scoreless until the top of the sixth when 
Jimmy Quiroz tripled in Raymundo Parra who had walked to lead off the 
inning. Lonnie Brooks singled in Quiroz for the second run.
       In the top of the seventh, the Bombers sent all nine hitters to the 
plate scoring five runs and putting the game away. Fastio Melindrez homered 
to highlight the inning as Yucaipa had five hits in the frame.
       The Bombers advanced to the final beating Hobnobber of Seattle 1-0 
on a HR by Parra in the bottom of the seventh in their quarterfinal game, 
and slamming Coleman Chiropractic of Fresno 11-4 in the semi.
