Beethoven exclaims: Ok! this discussion is on SHAVING. and I mean Shaving in general, the pubic area and other places. God knows we have enough of them!

Beethoven says: Let me start by saying that if you are someone with real sensitive skin, I would like to refer you to the Sensitive Shaving discussion Rebecca did over at Iron Rose. You can find her discussion log at

Lavicka nodsnods

Beethoven says: its well done. and gave me insight on it.

Beethoven says: my skin can take any blow/bump that comes to it, so i dont worry bout it.

Beethoven exclaims: Ok!

Beethoven asks: First off. WHY do we shave? when did it begin?

Beethoven asks: do we have to? who says we do?

Beethoven says: We all know the power of advertising. At the turn of the century, for example, the South African Diamond company, DeBeers, created the image that the diamond was forever and therefore would make an excellent wedding ring

Beethoven says: and doesnt every woman want one or two in her life

Beethoven says: hehe

Beethoven says: Another marketing campaign around this time convinced the women of North America to shave their body hair. Notably, women in the other parts of the world do not engage on masse in this ritual. Even in French Canada the habit is not largely undertaken.

Beethoven says: And im sure that if you are someone that can travel a lot, other countries DO NOT practice this "ritual"

Beethoven asks: gross? yes to us here in the US, but not to others

Beethoven says: It all began in the May, 1915 edition of Harper's Bazaar magazine that featured a model sporting the latest fashion. She wore a sleeveless evening gown that exposed, for the first time in fashion, her bare shoulders, and her armpits.

Beethoven says: thats not pretty .. to many

Beethoven exclaims: and WOW bare shoulders? yikes!

Beethoven says: A young marketing executive with the Wilkinson Sword Company, who also made razor blades for men, designed a campaign to convince the women of North America that underarm hair was unhygienic and unfeminine

Beethoven says: so one man called the shots, and tried to convince the world of this unhealthy act.

xaveria would like to sentence him and all his descendents to having entire body shaved with a dull blade for their entire lives

Beethoven says: In two years, the sales of razor blades doubled as our grandmothers and great grandmothers made themselves conform to this socially constructed gender stereotype.

Beethoven says: For me... and many others, i couldnt imagine NOT shaving

Beethoven exclaims: hell my dad shaves every morning cause he cant stand his stubble! just its a personal preference

Beethoven says: in the winter, women can exercise more leeway because of wearing pants... but the summer its shave shave shave...

Beethoven says: but... Skin tissue is damaged after the shaving process and it usually causes pain, heat redness and swelling. Epilation, shaving, hot waxing, Depilatories, Plucking, Hand Razors Shave legs, under arms, bikini line, Hair removal, bumps skin care, Ingrown hair, body hair.

Beethoven says: its not a fun process, but you can make it a safe one.

Beehoven asks: ok... any comments/questions so far? Y'all awake?

xaveria nods

Beethoven pokes y'all

Beethoven says: Ok :)
