........................................... ............................................ ..

The following night the telephone rang and when Tamara answered it, she heard Steven's voice on the other end. "I hate to bother you, Tamara," he said, "but could I drop by tomorrow to see my sons?" Tamara hesitated. She didn't want the boys' lives to be upset again but she felt sorry for Steven and couldn't deny him the right to see his sons. She told him to come by.

When Bob arrived at Tamara's home that evening, she told him of her encounter at the hospital with Steven and his request to see his sons. Bob wasn't sure if Tamara still had feelings for her ex-husband and feared he might lose her. He decided that now was the time to find out. "Will you marry me, Tamara?" he asked and, with tears in her eyes, Tamara whispered softly, "Yes, Bob. I'll marry you."

Mark and Matthew were somewhat shy at first with their father but they quickly warmed up to him. They spent the afternoon playing games and when it was time for Steven to leave, Tamara walked him to the door. As they stood in the doorway, Steven reached for Tamara's hand. "I know I have hurt you and the boys terribly, Tamara, but I've never stopped loving you. Do you think you could give me another chance?" As Tamara opened her mouth to respond, a car drove up and Bob got out. Walking towards Tamara, he kissed her cheek. "Bob", Tamara said, "I'd like for you to meet Steven. He spent the afternoon with his sons." Turning to Steven she said, "this is my fianc, Bob Green. We plan to be married in a few months." Looking at Tamara, Steven felt a great loss. After congratulating them both, he walked to his car and drove away...

Although her work at the hospital was fulfilling and giving her more confidence, Tamara felt she had to move on. Gathering her courage, she called Mr. Davis, her old boss. He was glad to hear from her and told her there was a job opening if she wanted it. Tamara thanked him and, as she hung up the phone, wondered if she could do this. Already her anxiety was mounting.

A week later, with her mother's and Bob's words of encouragement still ringing in her ears, Tamara set out for her first day at work. Standing in front of the huge building, she felt paralyzed with fear. "I can't do this!" she cried. Walking to a nearby coffee shop, she went into the washroom where she proceeded to run cold water over her hands. Dabbing at her face with a damp towel, she thought, 'If I run now I'll never come back again. All my previous successes will be swept away in one fell swoop. I won't allow that! I've worked too hard!'

Tamara knocked softly on Mr. Davis' office door, then slowly turned the knob. She saw the kindly face of her old boss and she recalled how concerned and gentle he had been as he showed her to her desk. Some of her fears vanished. As she looked around her she knew she would take things more slowly this time and not try to slay her dragons all at once. She had Bob and her mother in her corner now and, most importantly, she had faith in herself. She could do this. She had come full circle!

When Tamara had stepped off the plane a lifetime ago and found herself in a big city, she had been searching for happiness and the chance to fulfill a dream...to be an independent, self-reliant woman. Though many obstacles had prevented her from realizing that dream, she had overcome them with the help and encouragement of Bob, who had seen her at her worst and yet had never given up on her...from her mother who had kept her promise to stay sober and to stand by her side...and from her sons who gave her their unconditional love and the chance for her to be a good mother. Yes, she had come full circle and the happiness she had sought in the beginning was hers once again.

Tamara's search had ended.
