Theyre over here! screamed a human voice.
The reward is gonna be huge! yelled another voice. The bounty hunters could see the two figures in front of them, a good 70 yards or so, running through the trees. If they werent quick, they would lose them. They were chasing two warlocks for the bounty. They ran through the forests, tracking dogs barking, with the hunters just behind. Then, the dogs just split. Some of them wanted to go to the left, down to a small creek, but most of them wanted to run to run into the thicket to the right of the old, worn down forest trail. The men paused, and stopped the dogs. Suddenly, a flash of light came from the thicket, and a streak of burning flames flew at the hunters.
Several men were lit aflame, and ran around screaming in pain. They heard a demonic laugh coming from the thicket, and then the sound of their running warlock. once they put out the men who caught fire, they cautiously worked their way quickly through the thicket. They soon found themselves on the edge of a vast field, with a river on the other side of it. They saw the two warlocks running to the river, almost there. They ran across the field, taking a few shots with their primitive pistols at the two.
Then the bounty hunters saw their chance. One of the two warlocks fell, allowing them to gain some ground. The other immediately stopped running, and turned around, to help up its downed comrade. They quickly caught up, as the warlock that fell seemed to hurt its leg. Realizing this, the younger of the two prepared to fight. The warlocks backed up to the river, giving them a defensive position to defend themselves from. The leader of the bounty hunters yelled for his men to surround them. Karum, use your ax! They will not be able to stand up to its power! yelled the older, injured warlock.
The bounty hunters drew their assorted weapons, from clubs, to swords, to small pistols. The younger warlock, Karum, quickly drew a shiny, golden ax from the sheath on his back. At 6 feet long, it was the bigger than most men of the Maconneran Valley. A few of the men backed up, justifiably scared of the huge, muscular warlock standing in front of them, wielding a large, powerful ax, ready to slash at anyone who came near. Karum pushed back his hood, and looked around the 70-90 men surrounding him. This would be hard, but he had seen worse, long ago as a child....
All of the men in that field stood silent for a moment. Suddenly, the bellowing voice of the bounty hunters leader, yelling for his crew to attack, crashed through the silence, like a hammer through glass. The hunters charged at the two warlocks from all directions. Karum swung his ax through the air, dropping his attackers quickly, as his master struck at the hunters with deadly arcane magiks. Karum felled their assailants in droves, and his master kept pace also, bringing down several men.
In his fury, Karum started allowing a little more distance to come between his master and himself. Suddenly, a dozen men ran through the gap, to the elder warlocks blind side. The sound of a gunshot cracked through the air, and Karum turned to see his master fall to his knees, clutching his side, his hands quickly being covered by the warm, red blood flowing from his side. It flowed quickly, running down his side, staining the grass. As Karum watched, he could see his master being surrounded by the hunters. Looking through the group, he watched as a tall, red haired man walked up in front of his teacher.
The man looked down at the wounded warlock in front of him, and then suddenly brought his heavy boot into the warlocks face, knocking him backwards onto a rock hanging over the river. He walked over to the warlock, and stood above its still breathing body. The man drew his sword, and then raised it, keeping it pointed at the warlock. With brutal force, he drove the large blade down, crunching through bone, and sliding through muscle, straight down, into the warlocks belly. He slowly pulled the sword out of the torso of the warlock, the skin being pulled, ever so slightly, along the shaft of the sword. The man looked down to see the look of painful anguish on the face of his victim. The elder warlock slowly fell back into his death, as a evil grin spread across the face of his killer.
Screaming with uncontrollable rage, Karum brought his ax through the bodies of several men, surrounding the rock where the execution had just taken place. His master had just been killed, simply on the basis of the fact that the humans were scared of what they did not understand, and what they did not understand was the race of warlocks. All they knew was that they were mysterious, and kept their distance from humans, raising suspicions of them even more, to the point where people were willing to pay for the deaths of these warlocks.
Ripping men apart with his ax, Karum made his way to the murderer. His eyes were red, and he could feel his burning anger, seeping through him, as he lost total control. He brought men to their knees without heads to scream from. He cut men in half with quick slices of his ax. Three men tried to charge him from behind, and with his left hand, he simply motioned, and a chain of lightning flew from his hand to the men, killing them.
He started chanting, and started waving his left hand, still able to wield his ax with a single hand. The clouds above suddenly lit up, lightning streaking between them. With a motion and a word, a flame slowly started encircling the battle. Flames started rising and swirling through the sky. Lightning struck down into the fray, effectively creating an impregnable wall. The wall of flame slowly circled its way up to the sky, as lightning crackled through the wall.
He felled men quickly, using his powerful arcane magiks to rip apart the fabric of reality. Magiks ripped men apart, leaving pieces of flesh lying across the field. As Karum neared his masters killer, he slowly reared his ax, raising it far above his head, and with a menacing, bloodcurdling scream, he brought down the ax through the skull of the red haired man, ending his existence. He watched, as the men fell to their knees, burned by the flames flying through the air in his little Hell. He watched, as the flesh of the hunters burned and charred in the fire.
He watched, as the blood of his master and his killer flowed into a small pool, and then from there it dripped off the rocks, into the water of the river, drop by drop. Yes, he had created a little Hell, he had taken the lives of so many men, men who would never again return home to their wives and children, he had forever changed the fate of so many men, now dead, and he had changed his own fate... now he would spend his life trying to atone for his horrible sin. But that would be later.
For now he would stand there, as the smell of blood and flesh ran through his mind, and he stood, surveying the chaos that he had wrought upon this land. He was out of control, and he knew it, but there was nothing he could do. He could only watch as his spirit lost possession of his body, and his evil side took over. Karum stood above the battlefield, burning and beaten, and he smiled. Now it was his turn to smile an evil little smile, and he did.

Karum awoke from his sleep, sweating with fear. He had few nights of uninterrupted sleep since he had lost control. He usually woke up several times through the night, always to a flashback in a dream like the one he just had. He had to live with his sin, and would have to spend his live trying to atone for it. He decided maybe a few drinks would knock him out for the night, so he went to the bar to get some escape from his troubles...

Sora and Edgenops left the bar, taking no notice of the dark figure behind them. They went down an alley behind the bar. They knew where they were going.
They reached a small house and got to the door just as it opened.
What are you two doing here? said a surprised Karum.
Well, Karum, I hoped you would give us a nicer welcome than that. spoke Sora. Anyway, we need your help. You probably heard about the whole thing with Yuzra dumping Sir Elbee Nigh in front of his public. She was kidnapped afterward, by an unknown man dressed in black. We were wondering if you knew anything about this, and if you could possibly help us track her.
Well now, the assassin needs some help, huh? Gosh, its too bad I couldnt care less about the Nigh family. Besides, you know Im not a mercenary anymore. responded Karum.
No Karum, I dont need your help. Im asking for it, because it will make my job easier. Besides, I thought maybe you would like another shot at Gem, because I believe I could get you some work in searching him down. answered Sora.
Is that so? Well, I wouldnt mind getting a shot at Gem.... Ok, Ill help. said the interested warlock.
Good, we go know, in the dark. With some luck, well catch them sleeping. Come on. and with that, Sora and Edgenops started off, as Karum grabbed his ax. They headed off together, the assassin troop back together, at least temporarily... Meanwhile, a black figure cautiously followed the group down the alley.

Meanwhile, Yuzra was running down an alley, trying to escape her captor. She was at a dead end, and the shrouded man who kidnapped her was hot on her tail. She looked up the wall at the end of this dead end, and noticed a brick sticking out a little. She reached up, and started pulling herself up a little, and then grabbed a windowsill. She pulled herself up into the window, and then realized there was someone in the house. She slowly opened the door from the dark room she broke into. It opened into a hall, and she could see light peeking through the crack in the door.
She started to step quietly into the hall, but the doorknob started turning. She quickly ducked back into the room, and shut the door. She could see the feet of someone move down the hall, as she watched on from the crack under the door. The steps started nearing the room she was in, so she looked around, in a panic, for somewhere to hide. She saw a small closet, and jumped in there, just in time, as the door to the room swung open. The stranger flipped the light on, and walked over to the shelf, and picked up a small item off the shelf. They started walking out, and had flicked off the light, when Yuzra, trying to find out where she was by feeling her way through the dark closet knocked over a box.
The light flicked on again, and she could see the stranger walking towards the closet. Suddenly the door opened, and she stood face to face with a young man. He was a few inches taller than her, with brown hair and blue eyes. Yuzra shrunk back, thinking she was about to be pummeled.
Yuzra? What the hell are you doing here? asked the young man.
What? How do you know my name? Do I know you? questioned Yuzra.
Its me, Nathan. I work in a store at the marketplace, remember? responded Nathan.
Nathan? Oh yeah, I remember you! Youre probably wondering just what Im doing in your closet, arent you? Well, you know how I dumped Elbee in front of the entire city? Well, I was kidnapped, and I escaped from my him, and got here, and I ended up hiding in your closet. spoke Yuzra.
Kidnapped, eh? Hmmmm.... thought Nathan. He didnt have much time to think though. At this point, Yuzras kidnapper popped his head through the windowsill. SCILENCE!!!!!!!!!! screamed Nathan. He ran towards the window, but he had already jumped down, and started running.
You know him? asked Yuzra.
Kind of. Ive heard he has information about my missing girlfriend, Mandy. Come on, Ill walk you home. said Nathan.
Alright, thank you Nathan. answered Yuzra, and then they started towards Yuzras house.

Meanwhile, Karum, Sora, and Edgenops were still wandering down the back alleys of the slums of Maconner. They came out of an alley, out on to the main street. It was normally very crowded, but it was almost empty in the dead of the night. They began walking down the street, checking every window as they went by. They were so deeply involved in looking for Yuzra, that they never saw a young couple go across the street, heading in the opposite direction from where they were looking.
Suddenly, the strange black figure that was following the troop of assassins came around the corner to keep an eye on the group. The figure noticed the couple going across the street, and recognized one of them as Yuzra. She watched them go by, and then decided she could stop tailing the assassins if she was already going back.
She took a couple steps, and didnt notice the lid of a trashcan that had been blown off. As she took a step, she accidentally kicked the lid, and the hunters looked up at her. The young couple was at the edge of the town square, but still heard the noise also. The cloaked figure threw back her hood, and revealed herself as Sevena. Yuzra saw this, and began running to help her, with Nathan following. The assassins drew their weapons, and started toward the sorceress.
Suddenly Sevena waved her hand, and a blast of fire flew from the tips of her fingers. Edgenops fell to the ground, with a large burn across his chest. Sora lunged at Sevena from her blind side, but Yuzra got there in time to get between the two, and managed to start pounding on Sora. Karum raised his axe, ready to rip the bodies of Sevena and Yuzra to pieces. Suddenly, Sevena sent a bolt of lightning streaking through the air, hitting Karum in his chest. He stumbled back, coughing, but managed to keep himself standing.
Then Nathan entered the fray. He started hitting and kicking Edgenops, while he was on the ground, writhing in pain. Karum cast a wall in front of him, and then called out to Nathan, Nathan, what the hell are you doing? Both of these women are wanted by the Nigh Dynasty!
That may be, but they are my friends, so I have to help them, and in this case, that means I have to defend them. yelled Nathan, still attacking Edgenops. Yuzra and Sora were screaming and kicking at each other, and Karum was engaged in a war of magiks with Sevena. Nathan decided Edgenops wasnt going anywhere, and ran at Karum, who suddenly kicked out a foot, nailing Nathan in the jaw. Nathan fell back, and suddenly Edgenops grabbed him from behind, trying to strangle him. He kept the chokehold, but for his efforts, he recieved elbow after elbow to his burned chest from Nathan.
Nathan was gasping for air, and he was quickly turning a bright purple. Karum turned, and landed a punch to the face of Edgenops, and then got a kick to his chest. The kick knocked him off of Nathan, and back to the wall of a house. Karum then proceeded to lift up Edgenops, using some archaic magiks. By simply waving his hands, he could make Edegnops move through the air. He slammed him into the brick wall a few times, and then dropped him in a trashcan. Nathan started to catch his breath now, as Karum turned to Sora now. He threw Yuzra off of her, and then picked up Sora with a single hand around her neck.
I would NEVER work for you again!!! bellowed the pissed-off warlock, You tell Elbee I would see him dead, before I worked for him again!!!! He brought Soras body down into the street with force enough to break a few bones. Nathan was still coughing on the ground, but gradually realizing what was going on. Karum walked to him, and reached down to help him up. Nathan reached a hand into the air, and Karum pulled him up to his feet.
Karum pulled Yuzra up to her feet, and then looked around. Edgenops was clutching his side, and Sora was out cold, laying motionless on the cold, dark street. It began raining, and you could hear the raindrops hitting the aluminum roofs of the nearby houses. I heard about you guys. You guys are that resistance group against the Dynasty, right? asked Karum.
Yeah, that would be us, responded Yuzra. Why?
The Nigh Dynasty owes me something. A little payback. They hurt someone important to me, and now I can hurt them. I would like to join your little faction for that purpose. answered Karum.
We can talk about this later, we better get out of here while we can, spoke Sevena, Come on, we have to meet up with the others. With that, the group ran off, with Sevena in the lead.

Where do you suppose they are? questioned Kyri.
I wouldnt be surprised to see a public execution today... answered Gem. That witch is a bit headstrong...
WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?!?!?! shrieked the sorceress. Yuzra, Sevena, Nathan, and Karum walked up to the others. I oughta turn you into a toad for that! said Sevena.
Didnt think I would ever be seeing you again Gem. Still cheating your way through life, or did you decide to try to salvage some honor? spoke Karum.
I didnt think I would see you again either, Karum. Would someone mind telling me what the hell hes doing here? replied Gem, a hint of anger in his voice. They explained to the group what had happened, and that Karum had decided to join them.
Well, it seems like a good thing you guys are doing here, so I might as well help out. Maybe Ill find out a little about the whereabouts of Mandy. Im in too. said Nathan.

Meanwhile....
Sora, are you alright? Get up! said Edgenops, as he shook Soras fallen body. He pulled her up, as she slowly became aware of her surroundings. Her head hurt, but that was secondary right now. She had be betrayed a former officer of the Dynasty. This would definitely interest Sir Elbee...
Edgenops, come on! We must get to the palace, and report to Master Elbee, Sora said, as she looked around. The sun was slowly rising, but it was early enough to still see the twin moons. Sora grabbed Edgenops, and started running back to the palace...

So, it was Karum, that young sorceress, Yuzra, and some young man? asked Elbee.
Yes, sir. Karum turned on us, and then joined the resistance faction. answered Sora. He said something about never working for me again, and he would see you dead before he was your assassin again.
Is that so? He would see me dead... Not if he goes first... I think its time we had a public ceremony... I will speak to my father on the subject. Good work Sora, I will shall need your troops however, for this idea.... With that, Elbee walked off, to throne room to speak with his father about the idea.

The next day...
There will be a public assembly this afternoon, at 1:00, in the town square! The Dynasty wishes for everyone to show up! shouted the messengers, running through the streets of Macconner, spreading the word. Soon after, the resistance faction met to discuss the meeting.
We should go, to see what will happen, said Yuzra.
I dont know... By now Elbee and Zero have heard of what happened. I wouldnt be surprised if it were a trick. said Nathan.
Hmmmm. I dont like it either, said Aerin, as her merlin, Tiw squaked from a top her shoulder.
I have to agree with Aerin on this one, said Kyri. Maybe we shouldnt go.
What the hell?! Ill go. I aint scared of no trap! added Matthias.
Ill go... I have some... unfinished business... said Karum.
No, its a trap... it has to be. We arent going, mumbled Gem.
Who made you the boss?!?!?! Yoiu cant stop me from going! Ill go where I want, when I want, and theres nothing you can do to stop me!!! shouted Karum angrily.
Is that so...? questioned Gem, who began to draw his sword. I say we arent going, and thats that.
Well, than, you shall die believing that! yelled Karum, and he lunged at Gem, tackling him. He started punching, and then jumped off of him. He drew his axe, and brought it down on Gem, but Gem threw his sword up, deflecting the blow an inch above his head. Karum pulled his axe back, and stepped back, with a hand behind his back. He was able to weild his large axe with a single hand, with seemingly little effort. Sevena, who was the only one who could see Karums hand, suddenly screamed.
NO!!!!! she screamed, as she jumped out of her chair, towards Karum. She knew what he was doing, and it was dangerous. She could see the colorful energy being drawn into his hand, swirling with color. Quickly, Karum threw his hand in front of him, and a streak of lightning flew from his outstretched fingers, connecting the chest of Gem to Karums fingertips. Lightning crackled between teh two for a moment, untill Sevena tackled Karum. That broke the link between the two, and Gem stood for a second, and then fell to his knees, clutching his chest. He then slumped over.
Tiw jumped on Karum, pecked at scratching at him visciously. Everyone ran to Gems side. Sevena began casting healing spells, as everyone stood around, hoping to see if he was okay.
Will he be alright? asked Aerin.
Dont worry babe, hell be okay, responded Matthias, talking before he thought. Aerin turned to look at him, when he realized his mistake. Oops, I said that out loud, didnt I... said Matthias, trailing off. Suddenly, Aerin punched him, square in the jaw, knocking him out. She stood there, looked at the body, and then smiled, returning her attention to Gem.
Sevena eventually managed to bring him back, but Gem was still a little messed up. Then everyone started in on Karum for almost killing him. Karum argued that he shouldnt have made him mad, but it was to no avail. Then Yuzra stepped in.
He was right though. Who made Gem the boss? Yuzra demanded. But, that doesnt make it right. As soon as Gem is awake, you are gonna apologize to each other, got it?
Oh, all right... When he wakes up. But still, we have to figure out what we are doing. Are we going to the meeting or not? replied Karum.
How about, we split up? offered Kyri. Since they will be looking for Yuzra, she should stay here. Ill go to the assembly.
Ill go. Karum answered.
Ill stay spoke Sevena.
Ill head over to the ceremony with you guys. replied Aerin, as Matthias got up.
Uhhh... Ill stay here... I need some ice... complained Matthias.
Okay, its settled, Kyri, Karum, and myself will go check out the ceremony, and Sevena, Yuzra, Nathan, Matthias, and Gem will stay here. Its already 12:30, so we had best be off. Lets go! said Aerin, and they left, as Matthias stood there, a hand on his sore jaw, asking for ice.

The trio got to the town square without incident. It was the hottest time of the day, and being around all those people made it worse. But it was no where as hot as it was about to get... The three made it in to the square just in time for the announcement by the Dynasty.
My humble townsfolk, I thank you for coming. Today we have a very important matter to discuss. It has come to our attention that a few of our citizens have started a resistance group. This group is a threat to the city. Anyone whos knows anything about this group should tell the soldiers stationed throughout the city. This so-called resistance group actually wants to take over for themselves, and to take everything you own and hold dear! It is not for us, but for yourselves, that we ask you to aid our soldiers in finding this group of radicals. spoke Sir Zero Nigh, over the hushed crowd. That is all for now. Remember, tell the nearest soldier if you find a member of this radical group!
Suddenly, people began talking. The trio of the resistance faction knew what was happening. Sir Zero was turning the people against them. He could have the public help take care of them, rather than do it himself. He could make the peasants do his dirty work. They started looking for an exit, but the soldiers had already covered the exits. It was a trap, and they were stuck in it.
Father, is that enough? Perhaps we should arrest all of them, and kill whoever we think is in the resistance group. said Elbee quietly to his father.
Damn it Elbee! I have told you, I am the Emperor, I make the decisions, and I know what Im doing! Im tired of having you question me! Either you will obey my orders and decisions unquestioningly, or you will be killed! bellowed Zero.
Sorry father, other way around, responded Elbee, who suddenly pulled a gun out under his cloak. He didnt take it out, but Zero could see it through the cloak. Come with me father, or I will shoot you where you stand. demanded Elbee. Zero obliged, and went with Elbee into the palace. They went to Zeros private room, then Elbee kicked him in the back, knocking the old man to his knees. He grabbed a bottle off the table, and beat his father in the back of the head with it, breaking the bottle in pieces. Zero fell forward to the floor, face first into the glass. As he laid there, Elbee pulled the gun out from his cloak.
Its my time now. It s the time of the dawning of a new era. I will have absolute power over the people. You only took their rights. Ill take their lives. They will worship me, or they will die. I will be a god, and it will all happen in a matter of minutes. You should be proud, father. Im taking my place on the throne. Its too bad you have to die for me to get there... said Elbee.
Suddenly the doors burst open. Six guards came in, with Kyri, Karum, and Aerin bound. Right on time. Perfect. said Elbee, who never looked away from his fathers body. With the gun drawn, he pointed it straight down at the back of his head. He slowly smiled, and then pulled the trigger. Zeros body shook with the force of the bullet entering his head, but that was it. He was dead. Elbee stood there, the blood running over onto his boots, and on to his cloak that was hanging down to the ground.
Bring them here, demanded Elbee. He reached down, and put his hand in his fathers blood. He brought the red hand up, and then grabbed Karums, rubbing the blood over his hands. He dabbed a little on his cheek, and then on Karums clothes. Karum would serve as the murderer. He then dipped his hand in the blood again. He dabbed some on the boots of all three, and then on the clothes of Kyri and Aerin, helpless to resist in their chains. They would make good accomplices.
He then injected each of the three with a strange sirium. He wanted them to remember the blood baptism. They soon fell down, unconscious. He asked the guards to unchain them, and then asked the guards to look out the window. He promptly grabbed the gun off of the table, and then shot the guards. He put the gun in Karums hands, and left, the new ruler of Maconner.
He went back out to the balcony over the town square, where many of his subjects still stood. The bugler got their attention, so he could speak. Citizens of Maconner! I bear urgent news! The ruler of Maconner, Sir Zero Nigh has been murdered by the resistance group! This will leave me as the ruler of Maconner! I shall destroy the resistance group which killed my father, and I will use any means possible to do this! spoke Elbee, who then walked back into the palace, after the brief announcement.
Darrin!!! bellowed Elbee. The commander of the troops in Maconner quickly ran to the new ruler.
Yes sir? asked Darrin.
The slums, they dont look very pleasant. I think they would look better burned. Torch them. demanded the dictator.
Sir? You want me to burn the slums?! replied Darrin.
That is what I said. Do it, or you can become expendable. said Elbee, and with that Darrin ran off to do his job.

Soldiers stormed the city, arresting people. They ran through the town, with bales of hay and oil, lighting houses and buildings on fire. This would be the beginning of Elbees rule, one that would be based on fear. If you didnt do what he said, you would be killed. The fires swept across the Maconneran slums, ravaging the simple houses. Stores and homes were lost to the torch. Pets and people were caught in their burning homes.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! MAGUS!!!!!!!!! screamed Sevena. When she found out the slums were being torched, she ran to her magic shop. She found a box of fire, more powerful than most of the other fires in the city, because of the fire rods she kept in there. She looked all over, but could find no trace of her little moogle, Magus.
She looked around, at the city in blazes, and fell to the ground crying. She lost her only companion in the world. Her moogle was gone, lost to the flames of an evil dictator. Then, she heard the squaking of a moogle. She looked in the direction it came from, the house next door. She saw the roof collapse, and then the door was kicked down, from the inside. Out came Magus, pulling along a young kid whom Sevena knew only as the neighbors boy. She ran over to her moogle, and lifted him into the air, as the young boys parents grabbed him. Magus saved a kids life, and he was a hero. She couldnt wait to tell the others, but then she realized, she had lost the others.

Sevena ran back to their meeting place, to find it empty. Apparently everyone had left to check on their stuff too. Then Matthias turned the corner into the alley. Nathan was behind him. Yuzra and Gem came from the other end of the alley, and they all met up again.
Well, what happened? asked Sevena.
My house is fine. They didnt torch it. answered Matthias.
We werent so lucky responded Gem and Yuzra.
Me neither. said Nathan.
My shop is gone now too... but Magus here is a hero. At least that much came out of this. He saved a little boy from a burning house. said Sevena.
Thats... nice, Sevena. Come on, we can talk about it at my house. said Matthias, and he led tham off to his house.

What happened? asked Kyri.
He framed us. We will be found, locked in here, with the body of Sir Zero, and six soldiers. We shot them. We have the blood on us. The soldiers keep their honor, Elbee gets the throne, and we get taken care of. He thought this out well, very well. answered Karum. Suddenly, the doors opened, and Sora and Edgenops entered, with a few guards...
