A Tree Of Winter
I see you standing stark and bare,
Your fallen leaves scattered below,
And my heart is sad when I recall
How you looked not so long ago.

When birds sought shelter within your boughs,
From the rains and other prey,
When nests were built and young were hatched
And their songs could be heard each day.

When dewdrops glistened on your leaves
In the early morning haze,
When you swayed to the rhythm of the breeze
And felt the sun's warm rays.

I watched your leaves change color
From green to red and gold,
I waited for the winds to come
And saw them lose their hold.

And though you now stand stark and bare,
In total disarray,
The memory of your summer dress
Within my heart will stay.
