PTA COMMITTEE EXPLANATIONS
Apples for Students - Each Fall, the Committee will register our school with the apples for students program. Send reminder notes to parents to register their Giant Eagle Advantage cards with the program.

Art Supply Liason
- This committee will coordinate with the teachers for school supplies that need to be ordered and stocked in the cabinet.

Babysitting - Committee members arrange for child care/babysitting (Girl Scouts, Relatives, Etc.) during PTA meetings.  A fee is paid for this service.

Birthday with the Principal - Each month the Principal hosts a party for the students celebrating birthdays. Committee members are needed to help set up refreshments and gifts, organize bingo, cleanup, etc.

Book Fair - This program provides students with a chance to shop for their own books,  Committee members are needed to help students with shopping.

Book It - This program is sponsored by Pizza Hut. students are required to read a certain number of books/minutes per month in order to obtain a certificate for a free Personal Pan Pizza. One Comittee member is needed for each homeroom to monitor  the students' progress and hand out certificates.

Bulletin Board - This committee is responsible for updating the bulletin board in the main lobby. Current events and monthly themes are displayed This is the first thing that you see when entering the lobby of our school.

Emergency Phone Chain - A phone chain is used for notification of unexpected early dismissals due to bad weather or unforeseen emergencies. Multiple volunteers from each classroom are needed to make phone calls when necessary to the parent/guardian of each student.

Fun Day - This is an all day event at the end of the school year with games, activity booths etc.  for the students to enjoy.  MANY Committee members are needed for setup, working the games, help with guiding the students and cleanup.

General Mills Boxtops- This program  collects General Mills Boxtops for education labels which allow the PTA to receive cash. Committee members are needed to help sort, count and send the labels, and to canvas business for prizes, incentives for the contests.

Grants - This Committee will apply for grants that will help to improve our school. 

Homeroom Facilitator - This Committee will organize a list of all Homeroom Moms and coordinate needs of teacher and students.  Committee will communicate any needs/planning for upcoming events.  Committee will also keep Homeroom Moms informed of upcoming events.

Kindergarten Orientation - This Committee will arrange for light snacks, treats for the kindergarten students during the orientation day.  The Committee should be the outgoing Kindergarten parents

Membership - This  Committee will send out PTA membership forms,  keep track of PTA members, help to organize directory.  Committee will also provide incentives to classrooms for 100% participation, and submit list to state organization. 

Merchandise - The New England PTA  is selling "TITAN"  apparel as an ongoing fundraiser througout the  entire school year.   This committee is responsible for ordering merchandise, setting prices and selling the merchandise throughout the school year.

Misc. Fundraising - This Committee will oversee and coordinate Campbells Labels, GFS, and ink cartridges, (OfficeMax, etc.).

Mon Valley Reads Week - This Committee will coordinate with the Mon Valley Consortium to encourage reading among our children, and help to organize events and guests.

Newsletter - This publication (The  New England News) summarizes all current events happening at school as  well as to highlight our students' accomplishments. Strong reader participation in submitting articles, news, etc, is encouraged.

Photographer/ Historian - This Committee is responsible for photographing  all current events taking palce at our school and arranging/displaying events in the main lobby.

Playground Upkeep - This Committee keeps our New England Elementary School playground clean and beautiful.

Programs/Assemblies - New England PTA  provides many interesting and informative programs for the students throughout the year. Committee members are needed to help monitor the program schedule and begin to look into programs for the next school year.

Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss Birthday) - This Committee will coordinate 1 day event where students learn and celebrate the birthday and  accomplishments of Dr. Seuss (March 2nd is his birthday).

R.I.F.   (Reading is Fundamental) - This program distributes books to the students at various times during the year.  Committee members are needed to help select the books and assist the students on distribution day.

Reflections/Arts in Education - This is a cultural arts program in which students who wish to participate submit different types of art to be judged.  There are two different age levels for judging.  Committee members are needed to help display projects and get them ready for presentation to the judges.

Santa Shop - This program allows students the opportunity to shop for holiday presents.  Committee members are needed to assist in setup, help the students with shopping and cleanup.

Science and Art Fair - This program allows students to create and display an art or science project of their choice.  Committee members are needed to help with setup, work the fair, and clean-up.

Skating Party - This committee will help organize skating parties throughout the year and will help collect money at the event.

Talent Show - This  Committee will plan and organize a show where the students have a chance to display their talents.  Purchase awards, set up, and clean up.

Teacher Appreciation - This committee helps organize Teacher Appreciation Week.  Committee members are  needed to help set up and coordinate events.

Vision Screening - This program allows for Kindergarten students to be screened for various vision weaknesses.  Committee members are trained at a special class sponsored by the Pittsburgh Blind Association. It is a requirement for all Chairpersons and volunteers to take a two-day certification class held in the West Mifflin area.

Ways and Means - This Committee is responsible for all the fundraising for the PTA.   MANY committee members are needed to help sort and distribute students' orders.

Website - This Committee member is responsible for designing, maintaining and updating the website.
