A Brief History of Castle Doomspire
The Castle Doomspire was constructed about 1300 years ago, by the medieval wizard Mordraneth I. His castle was a place of evil, and while he lived, it was a place of powerful dark magical experimentation. Some of the magical spells that infuse the stone of Castle Doomspire today were cast by Mordraneth I himself. After his death, his son, Mordraneth II inherited the castle.
Mordraneth II was a warlike man, and he soon rallied an army and began waging war on the surrounding lands. Foolishly displaying his powers at the head of his army, his dark magic soon caught the attention of the Aurors, who, at that time, were secretly leading the cult of the witch hunters. By stirring up these religious fanatics, the Aurors were able to force the rising numbers of Dark wizards down, but at a terrible price. For every Dark Wizard killed, so too was an innocent magic user put to death. Mordraneth II was one such unlucky dark mage. One night, the witch hunters infiltrated his camp, and their sermons, which were unknowingly magically augmented, managed to rally Mordraneth's men against him. He was burnt at the stake, and his reign of war ended.

For two hundred years the castle lay deserted, however, though people tried to enter and conquer it, the spells protecting it still held, and all were kept away.
