Weclome To ......A Victorian Tea.

Tea time is such a nice refined way to take a break in the afternoon. A victorian tea could be simple or elegant, depending on the occasion and, I suppose, the guests.

You are cordially invited to partake of this refined and delightful custom with me.

Our Tea Menu

Cucumber and watercress sandwiches
Scones with Lemon curd and Devonshire cream
Small tea cakes
Shortbread cookies
Fresh fruit salad
Tea with lemon or cream and sugar

Tea Customs

Since dinner in Victorian England could be quite late, tea time was a wonderful way to stave off hunger until time for dinner. There were two kinds of teas: High Tea and Low Tea. The High Tea was more common amongst the working class and consisted of meats and vegetables as well as fruits and sweets. The upper class held mostly Low Teas. The fare there was similar to our tea menu and was more for socializing. A working class Low Tea was probably more relaxed, less pretenious. For a Low Tea served in an upper class drawing room, the best tea china and silver came out and all respectable ladies and women wore their best finery. It was a place to see and be seen.
