PTA/PTO Research and Planning

The name of this committee was recently changed based on the input of the community.  It had been called PTA/PTO Formation.  Many people felt this name indicated that the committee was becoming a quasi PTA/PTO Board.  The name was changed to more accurately reflect the purpose of the committee.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) vs. Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

This committee is responsible for many tasks including comparing and contrasting PTA vs. PTO.  The new school parents will have to decide which type of organization it wants to have.  This decision will be made after the boundaries are selected but the research can begin now.  If we do the research and educate the families ahead of time, we will all be better prepared to decide what is best for the new school.  Present and past PTA/PTO members from each of the feeder schools are being recruited to work on this committee so that there is sufficient representation of each of the school’s experiences.  The sooner we can decide this, the sooner we can set up the legal structure and the sooner we can raise funds under our own organization.

PTA/PTO Sponsored Programs

Another area of research that can be started now, is comparing and contrasting the various programs each PTA/PTO sponsors and making recommendations to the community as to what we should implement at the new school along with priorities.  Again, participation from each feeder school will yield the most thorough analysis and the best recommendation.
