Mrs Busy Body

In this comic 'whodunnit', 'busybody' office cleaner Lily Piper discovers a body and takes it upon herself to do some Miss. Marple-style sleuthing to find out what has happened - managing to get in the way of the detectives on the case in the process.

The action takes place in the office of Richard Marshall, within a London office block in the 1960s.

"Fifteen minutes ago I was in bed with a hot water bottle and a thermometer in my mouth."
- "There's room for both."

"I was employed by Richard Marshall as office cleaner. My hubby was the caretaker. You remember Fred? He won't half be pleased when I tell him I've seen you. He's in bed. He sprained his back reading the Sunday Times."

"I'm afraid I can't help at all. Sometimes he stays out. It didn't occur to me to report him as missing. Our marriage was far from perfect."
- Claire Marshall is grilled by Supt. Baxter.

"You understand this is not something I can prove. I know it to be true but it isn't evidence I could swear to in court."
- Marian Selby, Richard Marshall's private secretary has information that could be of use.

- "How long were you employed by Mr Marshall?" - "Two very long years."
- "Did you like him?" - "Did anybody?"
Robert Westerby is next in the chair.

"She happened to come in when he had his arms around me. She burst into tears. Then she picked up that knife from his desk. Well, if looks could kill..."

"There we are dear. Deep in the 'eart o' Texas." Mrs Piper secrets a set of keys she found while cleaning.

"James Cameron is dead, Mr Marshall. Did you know that?" - "How could I?"

"Mrs Piper has been with me on
a rather unpleasant mission.
To identify the body of James Cameron."

"Every time I open my mouth you tell me to shut it." - "Because it's open when it should be shut, and shut when it should be open."

"Mr Westerby, I owe you an apology. I was sure you were involved with her."

"Richard, please forgive me. It's all my fault."
- "No, I'm to blame as much as you are. I'm sorry."
