Blithe Spirit

Novelist Charles Condomine invites Madame Arcati, an eminent local medium, to his home in order to obtain an insight into the world of the supernatural for his latest work. However, with his wife Ruth and guests George and Violet Bradman present, the séance conducted by Madame Arcati moves from being an exciting and entertaining evening to one of strange and ghostly happenings.

"We've been looking forward to it. I really feel quite excited." - George and Violet Bradman arrive at the Condomines' home.

"I'm afraid I'm rather late, but I had a sudden presentment that I was going to get a puncture, so I went back to get my pump. Then of course, I didn't get a puncture after all."
Madame Arcati makes her entrance.

"Just knack again. Down with your head and up with your heart!" - Madame Arcati informs Violet of her approach to cycling up steep inclines..

"I'll be loving you...always"
Madame Arcati prepares for the séance by playing a record.

"Is there anyone there?"

"There is someone there who wishes to speak to you, Mr. Condomine." - "Tell them to leave a message."

"Wake up Madame Arcati. 'Little Tommy Tucker', Madame Arcati!" - "Steady on, old man."
- Madame Arcati falls over in a trance.

"Good evening, Charles."
Charles' deceased first wife, Elvira, returns.

"How's cook?" - "I don't know, sir."
- "You should begin every day by asking everyone how they are. It oils the wheels." - Charles is bright the morning after meeting Elvira again.

"Did you know my husband was married before?"
- "Yes, I have heard it mentioned."
- Ruth tells Madame Arcati that her séance had a better than expected result.

"You never told me you were going to ask Madame Arcati to tea." - "You never told me you were going to ask Elvira to live with us."

"You can drive the car if you promise to go very slowly and carefully. Your gear change is on the right, isn't it?" - "Yes." - "Well, use your left hand as little as possible."
Dr. Bradman gives Charles some medical advice after his accident.

"Just a moment, I almost have contact. I can sense the vibrations. Yes, yes. Again! Again!" - Madame Arcati enjoys an ectoplasmic manifestation.

"She's in one of her trances again, and I'm here as much as ever I was." - Madame Arcati's attempt to send Elvira back has not succeeded.

"We've endured five seances, we've watched her fling herself in and out of trances 'til we're dizzy and at the end of it all, we find ourselves exactly where we were at the beginning."
- Elvria tampered with Charles' car, thinking that he would have an accident and join her in the spirit world. However, it was Ruth who went out in the car - now Charles has two ghosts to deal with!

"Look at me, Edith. Are you sorry for having been so mischievous?" - "Ooh yes, Madam."
