Beauty and the Beast
Benjamin Bountiful,
the father of Jemima, Joy and Beauty, discovers that all
but one of his fleet of ships has been wrecked, and he
must go and salvage what he can. He promises each of his
daughters a souvenir of his trip, and while Jemima and
Joy ask for pearls and diamonds, all Beauty wants is a
single white rose. While away, Benjamin picks a rose from a beautiful garden, which belongs to the Beast. He spares Benjamin's life on the condition that he returns with the first creature to greet him when he returns. Thinking that it will be Rover, he agrees, but it is Beauty who he sees first back at home. Reluctantly, Beauty is sent to live with the Beast until her father becomes ill and she has to return home to look after him. The Beast allows her to tend him for a week, but she outstays this time and returns to the castle to find the Beast dying. Only by finding true love will he survive...
