The Students of Newcastle Uniersity are all welcome to volunteer their services to the University's radio station, 2NUR FM. It does not depend on status, degree enrolled in, or any other aspect. The only thing demanded is enthusiasm.

And it is this enthusiasm which has been the backbone of 'The Godfrey Tanner Project' for the past 18 months. Newcastle Student Radio is the only hope left for 'intelligent', 'independent' radio for the youth of Newcastle. The services it provides are many and broad.
The show was initally formed in order to ensure students would have a place at the radio station, as the air time was quickly filling with the sounds of Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion. The principle idea was students would now have a home on the radio, and student radio would live on.

Originally titled 'The Charlton Heston Project', changed for copyright reasons, GTP (as it is known among members) was formed in conjunction with the Newcastle University Students association and Students Union. The general understanding would be that the financial support from these institutions would be towards ensuring a place on the radio for students.

This funding ran out as of October the 18th. As a result, the Station Manager decided the show would not be able to continue without an employed executive producer, even though numerous volunteers were prepared to take his place.

The Manager proposed to put in place an 'EASY LISTENING' format, similar to the day time programming, as it has been proven to be more marketable than student radio (in total confliction with CBAA guidelines)

The General Manager ignored all last minute pleas, and accused the 'lack of quality' of the proposed replacement announcers as his reason for putting in 'Easy Listening' announcers. These concerns have never been raised to the respective parties - and therefore they were unable to rebut his comments.

So on Monday, October 22nd, The Godfrey Tanner Project, Newcastle University's only remaining student radio program will be replaced by your 'Easy Listening' favourites.
