One of the sister churches in the Parish, St Georges was a former school that came to being from a meeting held in November 1886 and the foundation stone was laid on Oct 29th 1887 ( the building cost about 1500 though this was not paid up until 1904) but in 1901 the school was found to have problems arising from being to popular with the local people who had children of school age with the result being proper cloakrooms and a New Infants Room having to be added to bring the school to the required standard at a cost of 800. Unfortunately with no money to spare Plodder Lane Council School was built and St Georges day school closed on Feb 12th 1908.  St Georges became a temporary school again in 1927 when the pupils from St James school were sent there whilst their own building was being rebuilt.

At St Georges we have a Coffe Morning followed by Lunch on a Thursday, it all starts from 9-30am, be sure to get in there early for a good feed at lunch times.
