Church & Community Centre

St Catherines L.E.P. is a Local Ecumenical Project Church that worships in conjunction with the local Methodists, this amalgamation came about when the Methodists lost their place of worship and joined with St Catherines with the intention of having a new building built upon the site of St C's this project is now completed and the official hand over date was 10/03/2001.

The Bishop of Bolton The Right Reverend David Gillett along with the Methodist Chairman of Bolton And Rochdale District The Reverend David B Reddish consecrated the new worship center in March with a Service of Dedication & Thanksgiving.

But in the early years (1959) a church service was held at Cherry Tree School, (just along the road from the present and past church) along with various house meetings the nucleus was formed and constant pressure was put upon the Diocese to releases funds for a new worship center, the building was to be octagonal in design and not cost more than 17,000 (unfortunately the parish had to repay one quarter over the next 20 years).

The building of St Catherines Church Hall was started in Jan 1964 and the building finished in December of the same year (the dedication was performed on Dec 20th and the first communion service took place on Dec 24).  There was seating for 200 people with room to spare.

The dedication to St Catherine, the patron saint of Learning introduced a woman to the galaxy of Anglican dedications in Farnworth and the wheel of St Catherine was symbolized in the design of the building it also lent it's influence to radiating out around the Highfield area of Farnworth.

St Catherines was fortunate enough to be chosen by ITV as a Morning Worship venue so on Jan 25th 1998 along came the TV presenter and all the rest of the crew to record the programme for later broadcasting (this happened on  01/02/98) just before the demolition of the "Old" church took place.

Why not join some of the regulars at St Catherines on a Monday or Thursday  Morning for their Toddler Group (9-30) or the Friendly Hour at 2-00pm, alternatively on a Wednesday at 9-00am they have a Drop in where you will be made more than welcome.
