3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
2/3 cup milk

Cream butter or margarine, sugar
and vanilla together, beat egg one at a time. Measure flour, without
sifting onto wax paper or into another bowl, add salt, baking powder
and nutmeg and stir throughly to blend. Add the dry ingredients and
milk alternately to the first mixture beginning and ending with
ingredients. Pat or roll to 1/3 inch thickness on lightly floured
board, cut with doughnut cutter. Put in hot grease for about 2 minutes,
turn bake another 2 minutes. Yeilds about 2 1/2 dozen
