The purpose of the unorganized militia is to protect life, liberty, community, local, state, & national infrastructure & to assist the lawful authorities of the state & nation in time of crisis.

Members may/can host meeting/training locations to assist the MILITIA in training/developing plans to assist member(s) in defending their property(s).
Member(s) with property(s) near or adjacent to public lands can coordinate their property(s) use as support area(s) for/as RTS Recreational Training Site(s). In a similar principle as hunters, sportsmen & some local hunting sportsmen`s clubs do that border state & federal land(s) taking advantage of both privately owned & public land(s).
This concept was "officially derived" from personal "paramilitary training" an active member of the PA ARNG & his friend(s) from West Point NY conducted adjacent & on Hungerford Trails Recreation Area as part of an ongoing overt paramilitary training program using the USDA/FS National Forest(s).

To qualify Level 1 members are required to have their Level 1 uniforms/equipment, be able to hike 2 miles within 40 minutes in uniform with their equipment, shoot 8 out of 10 shots in a 9 inch target at 100 yards with their personal weapon, demonstrate the ability to field strip & clean their personal weapon.

This area north of Hardy Dam near Big Bend Park on the Muskegon River in Newaygo County MI is used by members of 9th Brigade 5th Division Mecosta County MI Transportation Section & 8th Brigade 5th Division Newaygo County MI. Use of snowmobiles on frozen terrain is preferred to snowshoeing or cross country skiing especially when covering long distances in winter. Use of canoes or boats is necessary to cross the same area in summer & quicker than traveling around it on land. This area is also used during the summer for riverine training. One of the primary missions performed in this area is protection of the bridges & dams against disruption or sabotage.
