Bathsheba wanted to come up with a series of paintings that evoked the viewer spiritually as well as aesthetically. She wanted to create artwork that would speak to the soul as well as the senses. Bathsheba came up with "The Chakra Series"!

From Joy Gardner-Gordon's book "Color and Crystals: A Journey Through the Chakras" she writes:

"The chakra system is known to the Hindu yogis and to many other cultures. It's a method of combining philosophy, spirituality, psychology and sexuality in a coherent picture of the whole person. Once this concept is understood, various methods such as color, gemstones, and vibratory sound (toning) can be used to enhance a person's growth or to adjust imbalance.

"Chakra means wheel or vortex. There are seven major chakras along the spine. Each is a vortex of spinning energy. When a chakra is open, the rate of spin is healthy and the chakra is charged with energy. When a chakra is closed, it doesn't have much energy moving through it.

"Through the chakras, we're able to receive and transmit social, sexual, and spiritual energy. In the system I use there are seven chakras. Some schools say there are six, and some say five. Yet there is a surprising amount of agreement about where they are, and what their functions are. The first three chakras are below the chest: these are called the lower chakras. The heart chakra at the chest and the top three chakras are called the higher chakras.

"Each chakra gives off one of the seven colors of the rainbow, so when all the chakras are open and a person is vibrant and healthy, all the colors of the rainbow appear in the electromagnetic energy that surround the body which is that person's aura.

"When there's serious physical, emotional or spiritual imbalance, certain colors may be impure, blotchy, muddy, or entirely missing from the aura. These discolorations or omissions (which are visible to one who has inner vision) will eventually lead to physical illness.

"Color, crystals, and sound are ancient methods of healing. Their vibratory energy breaks up these blockages (whether they're emotional or physical in origin), releasing the energy and allowing it to flow freely.

"By knowing which chakras are relatively open and closed, we're better able to understand ourselves. Psychologists and counselors find this information invaluable, both for understanding ithe inner journeys of their clients, and for having the tools to open and balance the chakras."

It is Bathsheba's goal to be able to help those to balance their chakras with use of color and Hindu symbolism. At the same time Bathsheba hopes that you will enjoy the beauty and richness of each painting.

The root chakra center is your foundation in this physical realm. All your beliefs and physical influences are within this chakra. This chakra is grounded in material reality.

This chakra center deals with feelings and creativity. On my own personal observation these first two chakras explains why there is a difference between sexuality in men and women. Men, whose sexual organs are located in the first chakra, tend to be very visually oriented, turned on by what they see physically, when it comes to sex. Whereas, women, whose sexual organs are located in the second chakra tend to be emotional and go on feelings when it comes to sex.

The solar plexus chakra is the center of personal power and self worth. It has been from my personal experience that those of us that overeat have bad self esteem. Our third chakras are closed up. We fill the void with food. This is something I am studying further....

The first three chakras I have mentioned all deal with earthly or physical matters. As we work our way up the spine the chakras become more in the spiritual realm.

click here to view fullsize image 4th Chakra: The fourth chakra is located at the heart. It is also known as the heart chakra. The colors associated with this chakra are green and pink. Obviously this chakra deals with love. It is the center of love and compassion. You've heard the expression "love heals all things". Well, it's true. Green is a healing color and pink is the color of health. Pink is also associated with love.

The color associated with this chakra is indigo or a purplish blue. This chakra center deals with intuition. We've all heard of people with a "sixth sense". The third eye chakra is also known as the Christ consciousness center. Jesus speaks of this chakra center in Luke 11: 34, "The lamp is the body of the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body is full of darkness."

This chakra is also called the crown chakra and is located the top of the head. The colors associated with this chakra are violet, white & gold. This center is your God consciousness center. When this chakra is opened it means being opened to the Great Divine- God.
