New Zealand Phonecard Catalogue Ezi Pay (Remote Memory) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ezi Pay cards are the new generation of phonecard opporations in New Zealand. These cards work exactly the same as a normal remote memory cards. The only difference is, the cards do not contain value until the vendor loads calling value onto the card via an EFTPOS type system. On the reverse of the card there is a magnetic strip which allows the card to be loaded as many times as required. Ezi Pay cards have been circulating around New Zealand since around 2005 with major prepaid companies such as Compass Communications, Chitel, Cardcall, TelstraClear and Telecom New Zealand utalising the system. Over the same time period, the more conventional Remote Memory card has slowly been phased out. Telecom New Zealand has also stated their intentions of reducing the chip card issues in New Zealand, so the Ezi Pay cards are going to be the next big thing!! This website is the ealy stages of creating a catalogue of New Zealand Remote Memory cards. We would appreciate any assistance that may contribute to the current content of the website. How can you help?
How can you help? One of the big things about phonecard collecting, is being able to establish the extra information about the card. This extra information is mainly dealing with print runs, issues dates and printing variations. There are a number of ways of establishing these, but because the companies that I approached all said the information was commercially sensitive, we have to do it manually. So this is how you can help: Establishing Print Runs: On the back of Compass Communications and TelstraClear there is a sequence number. Using this number, we can estimate a print run for each different printing. This is pretty simple, but the good people of these companies have decided to use numbering system which accounts for each brand of card, not each individual design. So to establish a print run we need to find the highest and lowest sequence numbers for the different Ezi Pay Logo styles. To establish these ranges we need to understand the sequence number. There are 11 numbers. The 1st 4 identify the brand of the card. The next 7 cards identify the actual sequences. Below is a table which shows the different codes for the different brands of cards.
