CONDUCT Vs. CHARACTER

When was the last time you heard a message on integrity? Integrity is an important part of the Christian life? To have integrity means to have character. Integrity is the opposite of duplicity. One who practices duplicity is a hypocrite, a pretender.

To be a person of integrity, means having one heart and one mind, to serve one master. It means not being divided, not always changing.

Read Psalm 41: 12. God pays attention to character, not just conduct, but character. If you are more concerned about character, your conduct starts to go down the wrong road. Character is what God knows we are. Conduct is what people think we are by what they see. Conduct has to do sometimes with reputation. You can be concerned about your reputation, and still ruin your character. Take for example, the Pharisees...they had a great reputation, but they had a very evil character. God sees us. God knows all about us, and He says to us, Put Me first in your life.

Not only does God see us, we also see God. Set me before Your face forever (v.12). That is what gives us integrity - knowing that we're walking, living, thinking, and speaking before the very face of God. When you fear God, you don't have to fear anything else. When you fear God and walk in integrity and honesty, when you flee duplicity and hypocrisy, you can face anything. David was able to face all of his foes because he had integrity. Integrity unites, so it helps you to put your life together. David prayed, Unite my heart to fear Your name (86:11). Today, let's walk in integrity before the face of God.

Are you more concerned about your reputation or your character? What can you do to improve your character? What does it mean to fear God?
