El Morro National Park

For our trip after our first month in New Mexico, we visited El Morro National Park. El Morro National Park is about 30 minutes outside of Gallup, about 35 minutes from Rehoboth. El Morro is famous for its many rock carvings, some of them looking like very fancy petroglyphs. Many are also names carved by early travelers, such as the Spanish, Mexicans, and American explorers. Many of these names are from people in the 17 and 1800's. Some date back to even the 1600's. We were not a large group, but we still enjoyed ourselves (homework and tests had piled up to a point where it could not be avoided any more). After viewing all the carving, the path led to the top of El Morro. The Mountain is not that high in elevation, but the views were great. At the top of El Morro were ruins believed to be those of the ancient Zuni people. The ruins were very well preserved, and these were the only set of ruins in El Morro tourists are able to view. Other ruins are found in El Morro, but they are being excavated.
