Week 3 - El Maipais National Park

(and horse riding)

The weekend of week 3 was spent at El Maipais National Park. El Maipais is spanish for The Badlands. This area is very rocky because of the hardened lava that covers most of the land. While at El Maipais, we saw lava tubes, and we even got a chance to see in the tubes, and climb down into the caves formed by lava flowing through the ground. In some of the lava tubes, the ceiling has falled forming a skylight, or a window. As we were touring El Maipais, we could see Mount Taylor in the distance. This trip was a new experience for all of us, climbing and crawling through caves made so long ago. God makes wonders, even underground.
