Breeding Queens

Qetesh (right) and her granddaughter Lucretia (left). These two females epitomise the look I am breeding for: that unique Mau expression, refined boning, clean silver colour and of course large gooseberry-green eyes.

New Kingdom Nike

Sire: Matiki's C C Rider of New Kingdom (silver)
Dam: J's Iris Qetesh of New Kingdom (silver)

DOB: 26th May 2005
Colour: Smoke (aaII)

Breeder: Melissa Bateson

Nike comes from the last litter of my beloved cat Qetesh. She is a gorgeous little smoke with lovely type and huge green eyes. She has not been shown much but has produced two lovely litters of kittens so far that are amongst the best that I have bred.

Panton Penelope

Sire: Emaus Tetris of New Kingdom (silver)
Dam: Newkingdom Septima (silver)

DOB: 2007
Colour: Silver (genotype unknown)

Breeder: Pat and Dusha Bateson

Penny is a new addition to my breeding queens. She was bred by my parents from Septima, a younger sibling of Octavia, who I consider to be one of the finest silvers I have produced, explaining my eagerness to have one of her progeny. Penny is built like a ballerina: with her long, finely boned legs and her elegant body she is the epitome of Mau body type. She has very white ground colour, and is perhaps a little on the pale side at the moment during the summer months but she gets her spots back in winter. She was BOB Egyptian Mau kitten at the 2007 GCCF Supreme Show and is a CFA Chamption. I hope to breed from her later in 2008.

New Kingdom Octavia

Sire: Sharbees Mihos of New Kingdom (silver)
Dam: J's Iris Qetesh of New Kingdom (silver)

DOB: 20th September 2001
Colour: Silver (genotype AaI?)

Breeder: Melissa Bateson

Octavia is the first kitten that I have bred that I was unable to part with. As soon as I saw her beautiful little face I knew that I was keeping her! Octavia got her name because she was the last born in a spectacular litter of eight silver kittens. I've been wanting a girl from the combination of Mihos and Qetesh and finally after two years I got the one I was waiting for. Octavia is a stunning silver that takes after both of her parents. She has Qetesh's perfect pattern, gorgeous worried expression, huge green eyes and beautiful ear-set, combined with Mihos's silky coat and more elegant body. Octavia has been to several GCCF shows and won several Merit Certificates helping the breed towards championship status.

J's Iris Qetesh of New Kingdom
CFA Grand Champion

Sire: CFA Grand Champion and Regional Winner, Joyfulpal's Ay of Sangpur (silver)
Dam: CFA Grand Champion, J's Iris Mountain Mist (silver)
Full four generation pedigree

DOB: 4th May 1997
Colour: Silver (genotype AaII, suspected but not proven classic tabby carrier)

Breeder: Judith Mendelsohn (J's Iris Cattery)

Qetesh came to me all the way from Montreal, and as with Isis, I first made contact with her breeder, Judy Mendelsohn, by email. I had quite an exciting trip going to collect her and bringing her back on the plane.

Qetesh is a really stunning Mau. She is a completely clean silver without a hint of tarnish, and she has a perfect pattern of deeply contrasting black spots. However, what makes her really special is her head. Many judges have commented on her extremely worried expression and the correct set of her ears, but it is her huge bright green eyes that really grab you.

Despite not really liking the show ring, Qetesh had an impressive kitten career taking home a total of six Best Kitten rosettes, some from very large competitive Southern Region shows. Undoubtedly the most exciting moment came at the 1997 CFA International Show in Atlanta where she succeeded in winning "Best Egyptian Mau Kitten" and finalling in three rings! Of course success in the show ring is nothing new in Qetesh's family: her mum was Canadian Cat Association's Best Cat, her dad was a CFA regional winner in Japan and her grandfather, GC, NW Bacamamdit Ricochet of Pazlo is the only male mau to have attained a national win in CFA. So she had quite a lot to live up to!

Qetesh has produced some very beautiful silver and smoke kittens so far, and the good news is that she seems to be passing on her exceptional expression. In the US her first son, CH New Kingdom Shai of Emau, did very well as a kitten, and his kittens are also doing well in the show ring. Shai's daughter, GC, BW Emau's Kyrie was CFA's National Best of Breed in the 2000-2001 show season, and two of his other kittens have been CFA Regional Award winners. Qetesh was responsible for the first litter of Maus to be born in the UK while she was still in quarantine in November 1998. I kept the only male, a smoke named Brutus, as my second stud. More recently, Qetesh has been producing stunning kittens with my silver stud Mihos with Mihos. New Kingdom Benu, a beautiful silver boy from Qetesh and Mihos recently became one of the first Maus in New Zealand. Qetesh has not appeared at GCCF shows due to a mysterious lump on her tail that has appeared in the past year. Qetesh finally retired from breeding in January 2006.
