The Nest

I didn't really expect much from this movie. I mean sure it had cool pictures on the back of the box. and it had endorsement by none other than Joe Bob Briggs, but overall it still left a bad taste in my mouth.

As The box shows.. It's about killer cockroaches. The box also shows giant roaches, which is not what it's about. Infact I don't think the makers of this film could even decide what to use, becuase there was obviously many species of roach used.
The movie starts out with a smalltown cop and some missing kids. there's also alot of bizarre little things going on. Like all the books in the library falling apart, packages of meat are being eatin from the inside, dead dogs,etc.. This leads to us finding out that a company called (erg) was performing genetic experiments on roaches. ( we find out the reason for this later, which happened to actually halfway make sense, which I was suprised ) Well as in all genetic experiments.. somthing went
"horribly wrong" and the roaches began mating in this underground cave.. This is where the title comes in "The Nest"
Well now that we have the pesky story out of the way.. On to the killings..
They were actually very well done for the time the film was made ( 1988 I believe ) There is one scene where a man splits open into a giant "man roach" kinda thingy..There is another scene with a dead dog, and me and my girlfriend were arguing whether it was real or not.
Although, with the good, comes the bad.. And the end is just that.. BAD.. the special effects dropped down drasticlly in quality and made me actually laugh at the "Queen"

Overall this was an OK movie. I didn't find myself checking my watch like I sometimes do. And the acting wasn't HORRIBLE..
It's a good little rental if ya want something cheesy, yet will still keep you attention after ten minutes.

Funny Things I Noticed


In the movie, it was supposed to be one species of "super roach"
but it was painfully obvious that there were at least 4 diffrent types of roaches used..
