Godsmack:Awake
"I'm aalliiiiiivvveeeeeee... fooorrr yooouuu I'm awwaaaakkkee.."

As you can probably tell, I enjoyed Godsmack's sophomore effort.  Moreso than their debut.  I don't know, something about their first Cd that spelled g-a-y.. to me anyways, sorry.  ANYWAY, Godsmack told us all they were going to take a more aggressive route for their next LP.  And I'll be damned, they managed to pull it off!  Unlike a lot of bands that say their upcoming album will be heavier.  [ i.e.: Korn's Issues... ]

My faves off of "Awake" would have to be "Sick of Life", "Greed", and "Trippin".  Even their first single 'Awake' is a nice track.  The longest song, "Mistakes", while not so aggressive, isn't too bad.  'Vampires' is more of an instrumental, with a few samples talking about what else?  Vampires.  "Trippin" starts off sounding a little like Korn's "Blind".  And the final song on the Cd, "Spiral" can basically be considered the next "Voodoo", with its slower tempo and prolonged vocals.  This song pleased me more than 'Voodoo' though. The rest of the album was rather generic Hard Rock-sounding, but hey, not everything can be
great.

It still pretty much sounds like Godsmack, along with an added overall aggressiveness, as they promised.  So, if you liked their first Cd, you'll definitely enjoy "Awake".  And if you didn't particularly enjoy their debut LP, it wouldn't hurt to give "Awake" a try anyway.  "The spiiiraall neverrr ennndddsssss...."
