No Secrets (Luke 12:2)

"But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known."

In context Jesus is speaking of hypocrisy; the Pharisees hid their sin within themselves and covered it up with outward acts of so-called righteousness. Jesus is saying here that there is nothing that has been covered up that will not be revealed. The same is true in our lives. We think that we can sin and get away with it, keeping our motives hidden and our intentions unknown. But this is not so. God knows our hearts, and without repentance, our deeds are bound to become known, and sometimes even with repentance they become known, simply because of the nature of the deed.
God is kind, loving, and gracious; He is not out to expose us as frauds or make us look bad. But He does want us to know that we cannot keep things to ourselves without their being known; we can't keep secrets from God. If we have guilt, shame, sin, and malice in our hearts, God knows it. On the other hand, if we have love, joy, and goodwill in our hearts, God knows that as well. Our hearts are an open book to God, He sees all and knows all.

We might not know what is going on in our hearts at any given moment, but God certainly does. He searches our hearts, and He knows every motive, every thought, every dream, and every desire. He knows the things that hinder and enslave us, and the things which bring us great joy and pleasure. For that reason, we needn't spend countless hours trying to figure out what is going on in our hearts, but simply ask God to search them and know us, and reveal to us if there be any wicked way in us that is keeping us from fellowship with Him. He will surely reveal it, for He wants us to have a right relationship with Him at all times.
If you are feeling sorrowful, yet don't know why, if you are feeling as though you are being pushed away from God and made to feel unworthy, unrighteous, and unloved by God, take it to Him. In faith, give it to Him and ask Him to search your heart. If there is no Biblical basis for how you are feeling (such as conviction for sin) and there is no prompting of the Holy Spirit telling you what is amiss, then simply walk forward in faith, trusting in the complete and overwhelmingly thourough cleansing of your sin by the blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
