A Divided Heart, Luke 11:17
"But He, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth."
A man cannot serve two masters; he will either love one and hate the other, or he will hate one and love the other. You cannot have a divided heart. You can't seek to fulfill your own desires and wants and live for Christ. A kingdom, a house, a heart divided against itself cannot stand-- it is bound for failure, certain to fall.
In life we have two options. We can serve God, or we can serve ourselves-- But we cannot do both. If we live to serve ourselves, seek to save our lives and build them into something marvelous in the eyes of men, we will lose our lives. Jesus said, "Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."
If God has shown you a plan, a purpose, a path that He intends for you to follow through with, we must head down that path whole-heartedly; we cannot hold back. To hold in the back of your mind the possibility that maybe you will back out of it if it gets too tough, or to ponder in your heart the possiblity of failure and thus create a sense of fear and dread of the thing God has set before you-- You stand with a divided heart, and you will never succeed. It is all, or it is nothing. There can be no holding back in the things of God.
Because there can be no middle ground, just as there is no middle ground with regard to who Jesus is-- liar, lunatic, or Lord-- it is important that we approach all possiblities for our future with great care, utilizing prayer and fasting. You would not want to end up going down a road whole-heartedly if it is not the road God has for you. Seek the Lord, call upon His name, and be still and know that He is God. He will speak to you, using that still small voice in your heart, to show you His good and perfect will. And whatever He shows you, go for it whole-heartedly. A divided heart is destined for failure, but commit your plans unto the Lord and they shall succeed.
