#10 - Batgirl DEFEATED...

Synopsis: This saddening story begins with a man named Kenny
forcing his way into his boss’ office after being fired. He has a note
he would like to read to her, but she would hear nothing of it, and gets
the guards to throw Kenny out. The job meant everything to him... In Oracle’s
apartment that night, Batgirl gets ready to “train” once again. On the
streets, Kenny cuts himself with a razor... and feels no pain. As we soon
find out, he is following his boss. Meanwhile, Batgirl beats up some thugs
on the rooftops. Back on the street, Kenny confronts his boss, threatening
to shoot her. When he gets a shot off, Batgirl immediately investigates
the noise. Just as Kenny is about to fire another shot at point blank range,
Batgirl arrives and throws her Batarang... but, it’s too late and Kenny
fires the shot. In a several beautifully detailed panels of “slow-mo,”
Batgirl is quicker than her Batarang and appears to have taken a shot to
her head and is knocked out!!! Kenny proceeds to advance on his boss once
again, and shows her his frustration, which lets the reader know just what
kind of pain he’s in. Then. he kills his boss, which wakes Batgirl up.
She immediately attacks Kenny, but he feels hardly any pain. After being
kicked around like a rag doll, Kenny tries to end his life by shooting
himself in the head... but the bullet bounces off!!!!!!... Back in Oracle’s
apartment, Oracle notices that Batgirl is disturbed. Oracle suggests that
they should go out the next night to have some fun, but Batgirl turns down
the offer since she has to “train.”
