Nev Nicholls
Rajon Records have released a series old CDs titled "The Great" and the latest
addition is a 3 CD set of classic performances from Nev Nicholls
The collection covers many of Nev's most popular performances from the past 30 years, including
some truckin' songs, beer drinkin' music novelty songs, sentimental ballads. There are 2 duets
with Jan Kelly who was involved with Nev's band - The Country Playboys - at the "Texas
Tavern" in Kings Cross in it's heyday, and also 2 duets with Kerry Lyons.
Half of the songs in the set are Australian compositions and they come from some of our best
writers including: Barry Forrester, Graham Conors, Johnny Heap, Andy King, D'Arcy Leyear, C.B.
Perry, Eddie Tapp, Rocky Thomas, John Minson, Doug Trevor and also a handful of songs written by
Nev and his his alter ego - Tony Austin.
Musicians who have contributed to the excellence of this set reads like a who's who of Aussies'
best and include:
Guitars: Phil Emmanuel, Gary Brown, Mick Hamilton, Peter Bazley, Doug Rowe, Dave Longmore and Kirk L'Orange.
Pedal Steel Guitar:Kenny Kitching and a couple of songs feature Americans steel legend Buddy Emmons.
