A very small collection of tribute and basic information related links.

This list is in no way anywhere close to including all the different websites out there with basic information, pictures, tributes, ect. to the world-changing events in NYC, DC and PA, 11 September 2001. These are just a few of the ones I came across, since those awful first few days after the attack on America.

For some reason I, like many others all over the world, found myself drawn to the round the clock coverage on my TV; searching the internet for the latest updates, even being drawn to the Eagle Rock Reservation (West Orange, NJ) Look Out, while desperately trying to learn the fate of my two dozen plus friends and family members working or living, in and around the areas of the attacks.

At first, I thought only one person I knew lost their life. As each day quickly blended into the next, sadly I slowly learned there were 16 friends lost. Ironically, the original person was not among those 16. He turned out to be alive and well. I was the victim of someone playing a cruel joke, first telling me he was 'missing,' then he was 'injured,' and then he had 'died.

Granted a wedge had been forced between us a couple of weeks before the attack; but you would think most people would have the decencey to respond to frantic calls on thier answering machine, instead of sitting there laughing listening to them and laughing. (to the person who made the calls- if you're reading this -i do know who you are!!! thanks for proving what a number of us already knew about you). Enough about that...

The original list of links on my site was revised 31 December 2001. Most of the current (well as of today - 18 August 2001 they're 'current.') links have a common theme - "the human side." Some give anyone who wishes the avenue to share their thoughts and feelings, as well as find the strength and encouragement to somehow go on.

Nothing will ever be the same and moving forward will not be easy. Sharing our experiences, thoughts and feelings with others can help us feel less alone in our journey forward. Many professionals in the counseling field have stressed over and over again the importance of talking about our experiences with others.

Shortly after the attacks, it was predicted we'd see an increase in the number of people seeking treatment for, among other things, depression, PTSD, and alcohol and / or drug dependencies. This increase would be a direct result of what happened back in September.

Is this happening? You bet it is. From those who escaped the towers; to those who helped in the rescure and recovery; to those who lost loved ones. There are also those who saw the attacks over and over again on television as well those who lost their jobs because of the ripple effect of the attacks. These are only a small part of the issues people are now dealing with.

I recently read an article discussing the unusually high number of police, fire, ems, and other workers from Ground Zero, seeking help. As a result, the fire and police departments made it mandatory for their members to attend counseling sessions. I applaud those in charge for making this decision.

If I had anything to do with it, I'd insist anyone directly involved in the rescue, and now recovery work at Ground Zero, should be required to go for counseling. There is NO WAY someone can witness the devastation first hand and not have it effect them. Unless they already had serious problems. It can't be stressed enough -DO NOT ISOLATE YOURSELF! TALK to somone, anyone!

Don't hold how you feel inside, thinking 'Oh, I can handle this!' On a recent CBS special, seasoned fire personal expressed how much the 11th changed them, and these men and women are TRAINED firefighters!

As the one year mark quickly approaches, the number of people exhibiting signs of Post Traumatic Stress is increasing. Counselors can't emphasis the importance of working through the variety of emotions preventing so many from functioning.

One of a number of organizations reaching out with free counseling services is Project Liberty.

Our country (and the world) will come through this stronger and more united then our enemies expected. Why? Because we ARE the HOME of the BRAVE and the LAND of the FREE! (before anyone email's me to tell me, I switched them on purpose)!

If you have a site you'd like added to the list, please email me at [email protected] I'll be happy to add it.

Firehouse is a wesite with a lot of interesting links and stories pertaining to the 11 September 2001 attacks on America. This site, which has been around long before the terrorist attacks last year; has many other interesting EMS, rescue, safety and firefighter related stories, links and information.

On recent trips to my local major chain bookstores, I was amazed at the number of books focusing on the events of 11 September 2001 that have been published . It was difficult to limit myself to the number of books I bought. It's too bad I discovered, a little late, they would've cost me less online through Borders and Amazon .

America Red Cross Offical Website (ARC) - 11 Septemeber 2001 Red Cross related news releases describing the Red Cross' involvement in the recovery efforts. The ARC's site also has links for other state agencies

Kodak Photo Quilt - The Tribute to American Spirit PhotoQuilt is a place to share photos of support, courage, spirit and hope for the future. The PhotoQuilt is a growing online collection of pictures and stories uploaded by people just like you. Pictures from thousands of people will be "woven" together into one image that presents a powerful vision of our nation. This site has many heart-warming, and gut-wrenching pictures. A poweful collection!

Offical New York City Site - New York City provides the latest World Trade Center emergency information for those affected by the disaster, including victims benefits assistance. Support the Twin Towers Fund. Health Department provides information on anthrax. The site also has revised City Agencies contact information.

NJ Forum - This forum is an "online shrine" for reflections and rememberance of victims of this national tradegy. This website states they plan to print the messages posted and have them inclued in a future permanent memorial sometime in the near future.

Faces With Names - I came across this site on one of thhee bulletin Boards. The site takes a few minutes to load, but it's worth it. A well thought out site / tribute to the victims and heros of 11 sept 2001.

Thousands of Volunteers Come to the Aid of New York This link brings you to articles from the day after the attack. There are links to other articles, especially those relating to 'The Human Toll.' In otherwords, the effect working (in the beginning) the recovery efforts, through the present has had on the rescue workers, volunteers and the families of those missing.

I wasn't surprised to read on this site (30 December 2001) surviving family memebers of those lost in the attacks have commited suicide, the first less then a week after the attacks. I was surprised I didn't hear about it earlier; as I read the newspaper and watch the news every day.

CNN World Trade Center One of several CNN sites; this one has information about the World Trade Centers Tenants.

CNN's September 11 Memorial - Among other things this link brings you to is a memorial of all those who lost their lives in the 11 September 2001 attacks. The CNN database can be searched by: name, city, crash site, employer or age. The site also has a photo gallery of all the victims.

This seems to be one of the most well put together 'memorial' sites. When available, there's a 'profile' type tribute to each person. The site gives you the opportunity to send a message to each family. Not only is it easy to use, it's it's VERY up-to-date. A fore-warning, bring tissues if you visit this site.

LKING POINT - US Under attack. this UK site has eyewitness accounts of the 11 September events.

History of... - This site has a history of the World Trade Center.

LKING POINT - This site has visual, audio and written stories by survivors of 9/11.

An AOL Message Board - America Strikes Back (An AOL Message Board) - America's War on Terrorism. Ome of the many topic orienated boards on AOL.

"I'm Okay" - This UNOFFICAL site was one of the first created, by William Shunn on September 11th, 2001, in the wake of the collapse of the Twin Towers. He created what may have been the first online "survivor registry site where people could post their names to let unreachable friends and loved ones know they were okay.

This site received over a million hits that day and the next, and while it may have outlived its usefulness as a tool, he still has the website up with the lists of names, along with other explanatory material, as a remembrance of how grief-stricken, helpless, and uncertain we all felt that tragic day.

The list on my site was first created 14 September 2001 and last revised August 2002. An attempt is made to check all links bi-weekly to ensure they still work. Please let us know if you discover a link that is no longer valid. Thank you.
These links were last tested August 2002
