The ferret that got out and was gone a couple days was ,"Treasure " she is special to us we didnt think she was going to make it when we first got her.

A little history:  We named our first ferret Digger because he liked to dig, never haven being owned by a ferret before I was totally astonished by the amount of poop he quickly deposited. he lived for six months before he was killed by a stray dog.   Well this just tore me up inside.  My ex-wife and youngest daughter called me the next day and said they were broke down and if I could come look at there car.  So went to the place she told me they were at and I found out that they just wanted to give me something.  It was a little bitty ferret she could fit into my shirt pocket she was so small, we named her Treasure.  After I got home with her I looked her over real good and she was so skinny and small and wouldn't eat.

I called my daughter up and asked where they got her at they said PetCo and that she had a 30 day guarantee on her and I could take her back if something was wrong with her; by now that was out of the question I couldn't get rid of her.  We took her to the vet was told she was only about 5 weeks old and that she probably wasn't going to make it, the poor thing was starving to death she couldn't eat the hard kibble in the pet store so we bottle fed her kittens milk for a week and a half then started weaning her to mush made from kibble and kittens milk, after several weeks of this we started weaning her to dry kibble and she would take her food a mouthful at a time and put it in the bowl under the water bottle and make her own mush. best I could find out was she was just shipped by accident at such an early age to the pet store (marshal farms).

Then one day I lost my ferret Treasure.  She had gotten out and was gone for two days. I looked every where for her.  I found her tracks down by the creek where we had previously gone on walks before. I put up signs, called the local animal shelters, etc. A boy down the street had found her and seen one of my signs and called me; so we now have her back.

I now still have my signs put up in my store room just incase and invested in a small live animal trap, when I take my ferrets for a walk now we always visit this trap and they find a little treat in it so they now know where it is.  I keep it stocked with a little food and a water bottle. I check it every day cause every few days there is a stray cat or a squirrel in it. I just let them out and they dont come back, but it is well worth the effort because Scooter got out recently and went straight to the trap and is still with me.

I also have them trained to come to a very loud squeaky toy.  Which is also handy if they happen to run out the door or get out of there harness they can be called back immediately.
