briefly about the band and the band's current
activities.
Brutal Warface Greeting to you! Warface is
an independent Extreme/Death metal three piece out of
Southern California. The band is currently working on
a new punishing and very brutal full length album to
follow up the self titled WARFACE EP released in 2001.
What is the reason behind the name "WARFACE" ? who
came up with the idea ?
Our vocalist/bassist, Dave
Smith came up with WARFACE. He had titled one of our
songs, "Mask of Battle." And when asked what he meant
by "Mask of Battle" he answered, "It's your WARFACE."
And in that moment the idea came to him to name the
band Warface.
What is your intention by forming Warface ?
Pioneer
metal forward as well as support/uphold and add to it
traditions.[ that's what i called "The Extreme Metal Attitude"]
Now about the music, what do you call your music ? Who
wrote the music and the lyrics ?
We refer to our style
of music as death metal or extreme metal. I write most
of the musical riffs and then Dave, Scott and I
arrange the music together. Dave and I both write the
lyrics.
Where'd you get inspiration for the lyrics ?
Various extreme subject matter inspire our lyrics.
Can you please tell us what the song " Truth Of
Suffering" is all about ?
It's ultimately about about
summoning power outside of oneself and experiencing a
world of pain and suffering as a result.
Please inform us about Warface's influences and inform
us about the musical gear you use.
There are a ton of
bands that have greatly influenced Warface, ...Morbid
Angel, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation
and the list goes on and on, too many to name them
all. I use a KxK Custom Warface V and a BC Rich
Neckthru NJ Series Warlock with a Mesa Boogie Triple
Rectifier Amp and Marshall Cabs. Dave uses Carvin Amps
and Speakers and Dean Basses. Scott uses Pearl Drums,
Zildjian Cymbals, ddrum triggers with an Alesis head,
and Axis pedals.
Please tell us your top top 5 old school metal bands
and what have you've been listening to lately ?
Black
Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Slayer, AC/DC. We
listen to a wide variety of music.
What is your opinion about the Nu metal genre nowadays
? About the Nu metal bands, do you think that they're
really "metal" ?
There seems to be a lot of
confusion these days about what is and what is not
metal. There are a lot of bands that are being placed
into a metal category that seem to be far from metal.
Just because you have a seven string guitar and a
screaming singer doesn't necessarily mean the band
should be labeled Metal. [agree ! - Ed.]
Please give us your opinion about these bands :
Slipknot, Soulfly and Suffocation
Some of the younger
death metal fans that I've talked to indicated that
they started out listening to Slipknot, and then
expanded from there into more extreme metal such as
death metal. Suffocation kicks ass!!
What is your personal opinion about MTV ?
Needs to
bring back Headbanger's Ball without any false metal
bullshit.
Please describe with your own words about the phrase
"Death To False Metal"
Death to all the bands out
there that do not uphold and support metal traditions
and mentality and still call themselves Metal!
Back to the band, what kept you remained in 3 piece
metal band ? do you have plan you add new member(s) ?
Less band politics. We have no plans and no desire to
add any additional members.
Do you ever recorded or do some cover songs ? like
what ? if you have not, is there any plan to do so ?
No covers as of yet and no immediate plans at this
time.
What are your activities beside the band ? hobbies ?
Not much time right now outside of the band and
supporting the scene.
