Whats up to Anthony Biello and all in SEVERED REMAINS
Please inform us about the band current activities and the line up…
This is actually Pavel of Severed Remains. Well currently we are writing new material for the next full length and getting ready for a few big shows. One of the shows is going to be in New York as a part of the Bloodletting North America Tour 4 with Pyaemia, Spawn of Possession, Severed Saviour, and Deeds of Flesh, I think. The line up currently is Anthony Biello on drums, Ben Rubin and Andrew Marinowski on guitars, Al Soros on vocals, and Pavel Puzerey on bass.

Could you tell us some kind of the short biography about the band ?
Severed Remains was originally started by Anthony Biello and Ben Rubin as a band that paid much tribute to the old school gods such as Obituary. Shortly, Joe Reed joined on vocals and with him came Tom Terbanc on guitar who didn't stay in the band for too long.. Kevin Trask played bass in the band but he did not stay too long. There was some trouble finding a bass player, but later on Pavel Puzerey joined in the band and has been with them ever since. Struggling to find another guitar player, we stumbled upon Andrew Marinowski and definately made the right choice pcking him up. In the end of 2002 Joe Reed parted ways with SR and joined the band Gemisuadi. As his replacement, Al Soros took the position for vocals. So far everything has been going pretty well and the band is writing newer, faster, and more insane music.

Why did you guys formed the band ? is there any special reason ? What are your goals by forming Severed Remains ?
Well like I said, the band was originally started as a jam band for the summer and as it progressed, the seriousness of the music definately took it to new places. The goals for forming Severed Remains was to have something to do over the summer, haha, and then it became a way for a few guys to show their creativity and talent in front of crowds and write music that hopefully most people enjoyed.

There are a lot of brutal bands using the word “severed” as the part of their band’s name.
Can you explain why did you decide to use the name Severed Remains ?
Who came up with the idea ? was there any particular reason ?
I know exactly what you mean about the bands that use the word "severed" in it. Severed Savior, Severed Head, etc. It's nothing that we are really fond of, but the name was originally created by Tom Terbanc, the former guitarist of the band, and I guess we just stuck with it. There was no particular reason for it, just sounded metal.

Can you please inform us, did Station F records / AngelGrave productions had really put out your debut album ? please explain…
Station F records never put out our debut album. They were supposed too but there was a great deal of problems going on with the company they worked with to make CD's and our patience ran short, so we decided to leave them.

Please explain how did you join the Steve Green’s (Lust Of decay guitar player) brutal label, Comatose Music ?
The album "A Display of those Defiled" was recorded in October, 2003, and if you noticed, it came out in October, 2004. We tried to find a label to release our album and got screwed over a lot and we decided to send a copy of the cd to Comatose to see if they would be interested in recording it. Steve liked the cd and helped us out a great deal by releasing it.

So far, do you satisfy with what Comatose have done for Severed Remains ?
Can you please explain what are the actual matter that Comatose have done to promote and supports Severed Remains ?

We are very satisfied and greatful to Comatose records and Steve for releasing our album. He helped us out like no other could. Steve has been putting many advertisements in catalogues and on websites on the internet. He also promotes it a lot on his own website. www.comatosemusic.com. Steve is also currently in the progress of getting shirts and hooded sweatshirts for the band.

Who’s in charge in writing the songs lyrics ? What are his/their main & most inspirations ?
The lyrics are currently a very important part of our music writing. They are written by Anthony Biello, Pavel Puzerey, and Al Soros. Each of who have very different styles of writing songs. The concept of the lyrics on newer material is a psychological one and each song discusses different aspects of the human psyche. About inspirations, each one of us get inspiration from differen bands, experiences, interests, etc. It's kinda hard to get specific.

Who wrote the materials ? Did you satisfy with recording results ?
Can you inform us the equipment you guys used in the recording process and inform us your personal instruments that you guys use on your live performances ?

The musical material on a Display of Those Defiled was written by Ben Rubin, Anthony Biello, and Pavel Puzerey. The vocal aspect of it was done by Joe Reed. We were very satisfied with the recording results. Our producer Brandon Young did an incredible job on the mix. The equipment we used were B.C. Rich Warlock and I am not sure what the other guitar was, but it was actually the one that the guitarist from Warrant used. Ibanez Soundgear bass. I am not sure what kind of drums Anthony has. The amps we used were Peavey 5150 and Mesa Boogie guitar amps, and a Kustom bass amp.

Severed remains music is a bit unique than most of brutal death metal bands, you composed & mixed the patterns & elements of brutal death, brutal old school death metal and very catchy but yet brutal slamming breakdowns. Can you tell us how can you wrote such songs ?
This album did not really have a direction of music. We were struggling with trying to find the right sound, and inevitably it lead to a mixture of all different sorts of music. A lot of the riffs on the cd are melodic riffs inspired by J.S. Bach, punk riffs, brutal grind riffs, etc. We all just looked at the bands who we were listening to currently and got ideas from them. The bands current direction is very definite :Technical Death Metal.

Please tell us your all time fav old school metal bands. And what bands inspires you a lot ? Do you always listen to the heavy and brutal stuff ?
Well, out of the entire band, Anthony Biello is the biggest old school fan. From what I know his favorite old school bands were such as Obituary, Sepultura, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, Entombed, Slayer, etc. The bands that inspire us A LOT are Disavowed, Severed Savior, Severe Torture, Spawn of Possession, Psycroptic, Cryptopsy, Pyaemia, Cephalic Carnage, J.S. Bach (not a band, but the greatest composer of all time), Hate Eternal, Origin, Nile, Krisiun, etc. We all have very different musical tastes and we don't always listen to heavy and brutal music. We could be listening to the new Decrepit Birth cd and then after put on Sara Macloughlin.

Tell us what have been you listening to lately ? Bought any cds in the last couple of years ?
Personally, my current playlist is Heaven Shall Burn, Daughters, Slayer, Disavowed, Nile, Dillinger Escape Plan, Uphill Battle, Severe Torture, Cephalic Carnage, Vile, and Kalmah. Haven't bought much lately but heard a lot of new good stuff. The new Decrepit Birth cd kills, Psycroptic is incredible, the new Krisiun and such.

Please tell us what are your opinion about the Nu metal trends nowadays ? Do you think / consider its really metal ?
We don't really think highly of nu-metal, if they are making money doing it, then they're obviously doing something right, but no, we don't consider them metal. Just some guys who wear make up and make a shit load of money for doing it. Personally, I think nu-metal bands are what people who don't know about metal look at and consider it metal which really does not bother me, but i know it irritates other people.

How about bands like Slipknot, Soulfly, Mudvayne, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Static X, Coal Chamber, Deftones , etc ? do you consider they’re metal ? do you listen to those bands ?
I do not consider any of those bands metal although the drummer of slipknot used to be in Anal Blast. I just think that that guitarist/vocalist of static-x should get a hair cut and they should all stop whining about their "depressing" lifes cuz they are making millions of dollars.

Tell us about your local scene ? Is it big extreme metal scene ? Are there any bands in your local scene that you think are potential enough to be check to gain more recognition ?
Do you play often in your local scene ?

The local scene here is pretty horrible, there is only about 4 metal/grind bands. Gemisuadi is a great grind band who deserve an incredible amount of recognition. Dislimb play brutal metal. Phronesis/Rabid Impulse are friends of ours who played a show with us, and of course us.

Please tell me your opinion about the words “Posers” and the phrase “Death To False Metal”
Honestly, I dont give a shit about the word Poser or any stupid shit like that, I believe that if someone wants to be what you would consider a poser, let them do it, if they can take the criticism for doing it, more power to them. One should be able to express themselves in any way possible, I wouldn't say i have much respect for posers, but it's just an immature thing to make a big deal about people being posers. Death to false metal is just i guess what it is.... i have no opinion on it.

It seems you guys are very young & talented extreme metal musicians. Did you guys ever took some musical lessons ? What do you guys do beside the band ? hobbies ?
Andrew currently takes musical lessons and is in 8 musical projects. Ben took lessons as well. Pavel was self-taught, and same with anthony.

Have you ever heard about the Indonesian extreme metal scene ? bands maybe ? labels ?
Nope, sorry.
(Ed.: willing to explore ? contact me. hahaha..)

What do you think of the European brutal death metal scene ? they seems have a very huge brutal scene with bands like Insision, Spawn Of Possession, Severe Torture, Pyaemia, Visceral Bleeding, Disavowed, Tears Of Decay, etc. Do you like their “European brutal death styles” ?
What is you like from the European brutal death bands ?
Can you inform us a bit differences about the US brutal death and European brutal death bands ?
Wow, European brutal death metal scene is what we live for. They are some of the greatest bands ever. Mostly every brutal metal band that comes out of europe is ranked highly on our lsit. We like Disavowed, Pyaemia, Severe Torture, Spawn of Possession,Brutus, Insision... just about every god damned thing they put out.

Do you have any merchandise to sell ? like what ? How can the people have’em ?
yes we have cd's to sell and in about two weeks we will have shirts and stickers. You can contact anthony biello or steve green about merchandise.

Last question, any short or long plans activities for Severed Remains ?
We just want to write music as long as we can together and hope to put out the greatest musical material that we possibly can.

Ok then, last words, any messages for the extreme metal people ? anything else you want to say or add…
I dont want to say STAY SICK cuz that's too typical, i just want everyone to enjoy metal music, keep it going alive by buying cd's and not downloading them off the internet. Be open minded to music, there are so many great musicians that don't get much recognition just because they are a different style of music. Ignorance will not expand your knowledge
