Check out this interview with the LUST OF DECAY's guitarist and the owner of the label COMATOSE MUSIC !

Fucking enjoy it ! [ intie done by Donnie]

Whass up to Steve, and all in Lust in Decay?
Please introduce yourself and tell us briefly about the band.

Hello, my name is Steve, I play guitar for Lust of Decay. We are a North Carolina, USA based brutal, death metal band. Our history actually goes back to 1996 with several different names in the past. The current line up, with the exception of our bass player, has been together almost a year now.

Please explain why did you form LOD? What do you try to express with the
LOD's music?

Well, quite simply we enjoy playing music. First and foremost it is all about having a good time. There isn't no hidden message or reason behind our music, we just like to write brutal music and sick lyrics... that is what keeps a smile on our faces!

The name Lust Of Decay, I think it's a bit unique and rare, who came up with
the idea?

Yeah, with all the problems we had in the past with names and having to change them, Lust of Decay finally was agreed upon. The demented mind of 'ole Paw Paw Jay Barnes came up with the name.

I really believe that "Infesting the Exhumed" is one of the most brutal
albums ever made on this planet, who wrote the material?

I wrote probably 80% of the music, our ex-guitarist wrote some of the music. Of course, putting everything together to form a song is done as a unit and everyone's input in considered when completing the final product.

Who is responsible for writing the lyrics? What are the inspirations?

Jay does most of the lyrics. His inspiration varies from horror, to porn, to real life events he may see on the TV or read in the newspaper.

Where did you record the album and why did you choose that studio?

It was recorded at the Sound Farm Studio in Matthews NC, USA. Our drummer knew the guy who run the studio, and his prices were very reasonable. I guess that was the main reasons for choosing this studio.

Please tell us about LOD's releases so far...

Well, we just have the one full length, "Infesting the Exhumed", released back in June 2002. We had a rare demo CDR titled "Rest in Hell" that we gave out back in 2000. That is all we have done with the Lust of Decay name. There was more demo stuff before that under different band names, but nothing of much importance.

I know that the "Infesting the Exhumed" was released by your own label
"Comatose Music". Please tell us about the label and what are your considerations of putting
out LOD's album on your own label.

The label was started to basically help support the scene and help get death metal music circulating into the underground. I play in LOD, so I thought it would kick ass to have it be my debut release for Comatose Music.

Inform us about the Comatose Music releases.

Only two releases at this time. Lust of Decay - Infesting the Exhumed, and Dislimb/ Dyscrasia - split CD. Currently I have the Debodified debut release at the press factory, I am expecting to have it by the end of January 2003. I have a few other projects in the works for this year as well!

Is it hard of being in a band and run label at the same time? How do you
manage your time? Do you work alone in the label or there are other staffs?

It can be difficult doing both things at the same time, but it has to be done to be successful. Right now I am the only one working Comatose Music... perhaps in the future if things really go well I can hire some help. But for now I can handle it.

How do you support the band under the Comatose flag?

Promotion is the biggest support, it takes a lot of time and work getting the bands exposure that they deserve.

If there is a band that like to signed with Comatose Music, what should they
have inside their music? Do you have any special consideration or classifications?

The main thing is it has to be brutal as fuck, hahaha! I want bands that are tight and have good production and professional attitudes about music. And of course I have to like it too!

About LOD, what are LOD's influences?

Anything brutal for the most part. Too many bands to list here though, hahaha!

Tell us your favorite old school death metal bands and what you've been listening
to lately? Do you only listen to extreme metal music?

Old school would have to be Dark Angel, Death, Obituary, Sepultura... shit like that. I listen to mostly extreme music, but I still have a soft spot for classic punk rock occasionally like Misfits and Minor Threat for example.

What is your opinion about the Nu metal trend these days? Bands like
Slipknot, Dry Kill Logic, Mushroomheads, Deftones, Korn, Coal Chamber, POD,
Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc, Do you consider those bands are metal bands?

I have not even heard of some of those bands, hahaha! I have no interest in them and do not listen to them... so I really have no opinion.

What does death metal/ brutal death mean to you? Is it just music, a way
of life, a trend, or what?

Basically just music to me... like I said before, for me it is all about fun for the most part. It certainly is not a trend, I know that!

In your opinion, what does every death metal/ brutal death band must have
inside their music to be considered good metal band? What attitude must
they have to be considered cool metal band?

To me technique and execution is what makes a band good in my eyes. So many people talk about being original and innovative and shit like that to be good. In my opinion, half of these bands that are "Original and Innovative" suck anyways! So what if a band "sounds" similar to another, that is what makes them death metal. I don't care how much a band may sound like another, all bands have something that will set them apart from each other. And as long as a band doesn't have the "rock star" attitude, they are cool to me!

What do you do beside the band and the label?

I am a cable television contractor. I also recently started a graphic design venture called "Diabolic Design & Graphics".

Hows the scene on your local area? Is it big? Do you play often in your
area? Also can you inform us the bands from your area that you think is cool to
check out?

The scene here is pretty weak, but I have seen improvement lately. We actually play often at this really killer club, Ground Zero. The club owners are really cool and do what they can to bring in big shows for death metal fans. A few other bands from this area is Nile, Sikfuk, and Debodified.

Tell us your most brutal & unforgettable gig?

Probably the Brutalize Your Mind Fest 2002... so many awesome bands on the line up. It was a lot of fun and very fucking brutal!

Please inform us about LOD's gear. Why do you choose them?

I use Jackson guitars, Crate cabinets, Mos Valve amplification, and a Digitech RP-12 processor. Derek has an Ibanez bass and Crate amp. Jordan uses Yamaha drums and DM5 trigger module for his kick drums. Jay has a Shure 58 microphone to bark in. I choose the equipment I use cause of the sound it gives me, I don't know about the other guys... probably the same reason though.

Do you know something about the Indonesian extreme metal scene such as the
bands, labels, zines / webzines, etc.

I am not too familiar with the Indonesian scene yet, but I plan to learn more about it!

Do you have any merchandise? How the people can get it?

Yes, CDs and shirts! Go to either www.lustofdecay.com or www.comatosemusic.com to get it!

Tell us your future plans for Lust Of Decay.

Right now we are writing towards our next CD, "Kingdom of Corpses". It should be completed and released by summer 2003. We also have several shows and fests lined up for 2003. Should be an excellent year for LOD!

Do you guys get into porn? if yes, who is your favorite pornstar? What is your favorite
fucking position? Which one do you prefer, a titty fuck or a handjob? Why?

Hahahaha, you damn right we like porn! I don't know any of the porn stars names, I just like to watch them! I certainly like a whore who knows how to ride. And to Hell with a titty fuck and a handjob... I want a damn blowjob so I can blast a load in her eye! Hahaha!

Well, I guess that's all for now. All the best & good luck to Lust Of Decay.
Anything else you wanna add? Last words?

Thanks a ton for the interview and the best of luck to you and your ventures. Stay sick....
