Sick & brutal greetings to Scott of INCINERATE and BRUTAL BANDS.  Whass

up? Please introduce yourself and INCINERATE.

My name is Scott Ellingboe and I play guitar and vocals in Incinerate.

Jesse Watson is our lead vocalist.  Mike Presley plays bass.  And our

>newest returning member, Randy Grolemund plays the drums.

What made you start Incinerate? Was there any special reason or mission?

Whose idea was the cool band name Incinerate?

After quitting a previous death metal act called Dominion at the time, I

went for a year and a half without playing and it was driving me nuts.

So finally I decided that the only way I would be truly satisfied, would

be to start my own band.

My intensions at the time were to just be known as the most brutal death

metal act in our hometown.  But, it looks like things went a little

further for us.

The name Incinerate was something I came up with.  I wanted to come up

with a name that didn't really directly mean anything - I didn't want

this band to be stuck always on the same theme because of the name.

Some bands have satanic names, and so all their material is always

satanic, or some bands may have a name related to gore, so all their

lyrics and artwork are always gore.  I wanted a name that would allow us

to do whatever we wanted, but still have some level of brutality to it.

Tell us about your new album "Dissecting The Angels".  Where did you

record

it? Are you satisfied with the studio results?

"Dissecting The Angels" is Incinerate's long awaited debut album.  It

includes 10 crushing tracks of pure sickness!  The album was recorded at

my studio - Brutal Bands - yes Brutal Bands does studio recording too!

Yes, we are quite happy with the results, and have received many

compliments in regards to the actual recording itself.  The CD was

>mastered by Brian Bart at Logic Studios.

Who wrote the lyrics? I can see that the lyrics are mostly about

blasphemy. Please tell us why.

The lyrics were written by our vocalist, Jesse Watson.  Yes, the lyrics

are generally a mixture of anti-Christianity/blasphemy with a touch of

gore.  As far as why - well, it happens to be a topic that we are into

at this time.  Our next CD may have a totally different theme all

>together.

About the totally brutal musick, who composed/wrote the music?

I wrote all the music.

Inform us about your musical equipment and why do you use them?

Well, I primarily play a Jackson Randy Rhoads V with inverted shark fin

inlays, reverse headstock, and EMG pickups.  I've always liked the sound

and feel of Jackson guitars.  I also play an Ibanez S Series guitar from

time to time, as I also like Ibanez.  I use Ampeg speaker cabinets, a

Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier head, and an Ampeg VL1002 head.  I use two

heads with slightly different distortion and effects to try to give our

live performances a heavier two guitar sound, since our band has one

guitarist.

Tell us the most influencing bands / musician for Incinerate.

Wow, that's a tough one.  I can only speak for myself - I'd have to say

Suffocation, Deeds Of Flesh, Disgorge, Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal, Bill

Steer of Carcass, and I could go on and on...

Tell us your top 5 oldschool death metal bands and also your top 5

Current death metal bands.

Well old school bands (at least they are in my opinion) - I would say

Morbid Angel, Carcass, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, and Suffocation.

Current death metal - I would say Origin, Hate Eternal, Disavowed,

Beheaded, and once again Suffocation (cause their shit is still as

>brutal as anything out today.)

What have been you listening to lately?  Do you always listen to extreme

metal? Please explain.

Lately I've been listening to Beheaded, Origin, Nile, Vile, Deeds Of

Flesh, Disgorge, shit like that.  Yes, all I listen to is brutal death

metal.  Why, well because I like it - it happens to be a huge part of my

life.  I'm not just a part-time poser that also attends all the Korn

concerts! Hahaha

Now, about your label, BRUTAL BANDS RECORDS, please tell us everything

About the label.

OK, first of all, for the record, the actual name of the label is just

Brutal Bands.  There is no "Records" on the end of it.  The reason I'm

bringing this up is because I'm starting to see the name out there on

the internet, and some people are putting the word "Records" at the end.

It's just Brutal Bands!  Why is it just Brutal Bands - well because it

started out as a web hosting company for extreme metal bands.  Then I

recorded the Incinerate CD using the Brutal Bands name.  And then

eventually decided to create a record label using the same name.  So the

main reason that my label doesn't have the typical word "Records" at the

end of it, is because the name Brutal Bands refers to an entity larger

than just my label.  Plus I think it's cool to be one of the few labels

out there that doesn't have the fucking word "Records" in their name.

And you also own a web hosting provider, please tell us everything about this business.

Yes, as I mentioned, Brutal Bands started out as just a web hosting

company, before it branched out into studio recording and the label.

The web hosting side of Brutal Bands is basically designed for bands,

and offers things that band websites usually need, such as domain names,

email, ftp, hit counter, guestbook, and showdates.  And to make things

even more complicated, I own another company which is actually my parent

company of Brutal Bands, called BiztechNetworks.  BiztechNetworks is a

web hosting company for small businesses.  It offers services not

provided by Brutal Bands, to meet the needs of most small businesses.

And I also do computer consulting on the side through BiztechNetworks.

What made decide to also run a label?

My decision to start a label was based on a few things.  Number one,

Incinerate already sent out demos to many labels in the past and never

received a single response from any of them.  I felt that "Dissecting

The Angels" was going to be a good release.  So basically I thought, why

wait around, hoping that we'll get some label's attention this time?  I

figured fuckum', I'll start my own label and release this CD, and see

what sort of attention that gets instead.  So far, it's getting some

pretty good attention from labels that weren't at all interested before,

which is awesome!  Plus it gives me the control over this release and

future releases, instead of relying on someone else.  I'm a firm

believer that if you want something done right, you should do it

yourself.  Plus I'm really an aggressive person that would rather just

take fucking charge, than to sit around and wait for some other label to

finally sign our band - we don't have time to just fuck around waiting.

Plus, I thought running a label would be cool.  It would give me a

different view of the underground music industry, and forces me to

really stay in touch with what is going on.  So far, I really enjoy it,

and I take it very serious.

Why did you name it BRUTAL BANDS?

Well, as I mentioned before, it's a name I already had, and I thought it

>sounded fitting for a label of this type.

Do you run it all by yourself or you have other staff helping you?

So far, I'm running it by myself.  I hope to stay that way for as long

as possible to keep things simple.  But I know at some point, as this

label grows, I will have to probably hire some help.  Right now, members

of the band and friends of the band help a little when I'm at a show -

they help watch the merchandise table from time to time - but other than

that, right now it's just me.

Tell us about the releases so far?

Well, so far the only release is "Dissecting The Angels" by Incinerate.

I get demo submissions from time to time, but nothing that has grabbed

my attention yet.  Plus my label is new - hell it's only been around now

for about a month - I know in time, I will be signing other acts.

If a band wants to be signed with your label, do you have any special

Qualifications / standards?

Yes, and it's simple.  They must be brutal!  Brutal Bands is looking for

acts that sound brutal, interesting, and have a certain level of

quality.  I don't want to release stuff that would be considered below

average.  I want quality and brutality.  I also want bands that play

shows.  They don't have to go of huge tours all the time, but they need

to be motivated at least to play at major fests and other shows like

that to get their name out there.  I see bands getting signed that never

play shows - I don't get it???

Is that hard for you to manage your time between the band and the label?

How do you manage it?

It's not too hard to manage the two.  We practice twice a week for a

couple hours.  And I only work on the label when I have time, and I seem

to have a lot of time - so it's not that tough.  I could see myself

being more busy though as I sign more bands.

Please tell us what do you do beside the band & label?

Well, I'm also a computer geek.  I work in computers as a career - my

real job.

What is your opinion about the Nu metal trends these days?  Do you

Consider these bands as metal bands?  What about SLIPKNOT? Everybody says that

they're metal, what about you?  Please explain?

I was actually sort of OK with this shit when it all sort of started

with bands like Tool back in the mid-90's, but fuck man, is it getting

>annoying!!!  It's like, when is this shit going to get old and die?  The

problem is, it will probably just get replaced with something even

worse.  I don't know what I consider these bands - other than a bunch of

trendy monkey wanna-bes jumping around on stage playing the same fuckingnotes over and over.  No Limpcock is not metal - and neither are their stage gimmicks.  One of the problems in the US, is that many people here jump on fucking trends.  I have much bigger issues with the Rap culture in the US - which has gotten completely out of control - like a fucking virus - still They Breed!

Please describe your opinion about the word "death Metal".  And what's

That mean to you?  Is it just music or also your way of life?  How serious

you taking death metal into your personal life?

I feel that "death metal" is mostly just music - a description of a

genre of metal.  It can be as much in your life as you want it to be.  I

mean, of course most people that listen to or play death metal do not

actually act out and live the tales in the lyrics.  But many fans out

there are really into it.  They go across country to all the fests no

matter who's headlining, they buy tons of CDs, shirts, and zines - they

are really into it - which is cool.  Others out there may run a label or

a zine.  I think if you are more than just a casual listener of death

metal, it's probably by nature, going to be a big part of your personal

life.  And that's one of the things that makes us people in the

underground unique from the rest of the world.

Tell us what kind of people do you hate?  Why?

I hate people that try to destroy what is yours.  People that bend over

backwards to try to be an obstacle in your way.  And I hate people that

waste their time making self-destructive decisions in life!

If you got the opportunity to cover a song, what song and from what

band? Why?  Also, what bands would you want to share the stage with?

Well, we used to cover Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse.  So, I

think I would choose that one, cause it's kind of a classic with us - we

still get people begging us to play it.

I'd love to play with Suffocation (if they really do get back together)

just cause they are one of the founding fathers of what Incinerate and

many other bands today play.  I'd also love to play some shows with

Origin, Hate Eternal, etc.

Please tell us about your most brutal and sickest gig/show?

It would have to be Milwaukee Metalfest in 2000.  Our set was kick ass,

we had a pit, and a very large crowd.  After our set people were asking

for autographs, pictures, and interviews - it was sort of nuts at the

time.

Tell us about your local scene. Is it big?  Do you play often in your local

area?  Can you inform us of any cool bands from your local area that you

think are worth checking out?

Our local scene is rather small.  It seems like it used to be bigger,

but now I don't know.  I know it's to the point where I want to play

elsewhere just to get a change in the fucking scenery.  As far as cool

bands - fuck that's a tough one - I'd say I'm probably into a band

called Nymphotomy the most.  They are a brutal death metal band with

maybe a touch of black metal, but still maintaining brutality, and they

have a chic on the vocals that sounds deeper (and has bigger tits!) than

the Arch Enemy bitch that everyone thinks is so hot - hahaha.

What do you know about the Indonesian extreme metal scene?

Well, I'm finding out that it's bigger than I ever knew about.  And

there are some decent bands from there, which is fucking nuts.  Cause in

the US, most people wouldn't expect it - so it's cool!  I hope the scene

there continues to grow.

Scott, if murder were legal, tell us your top 10 list about the kind of

people you'd like to kill ( don't tell even you're performing ultra

brutal music but you're a peaceful man deep inside your heart ).

Hahaha - fuck man, that one's out of my league!

Tell us your near future plans and what is your main goal with

INCINERATE and BRUTAL BANDS Records?

Incinerate plans to play as many brutal shows and fests as we can.  We

hope to put out some more new merchandise soon.  And just keep promoting

"Dissecting The Angels".  We'll probably start working on new material

early next year, for a late 2003 - early 2004 second release.  But

that's a ways off, right now we're just going to promote "Dissecting The

Angels".

Brutal Bands plans to continue expanding it's distro and promoting

Incinerate.  We will be adding Pit Magazine to our line of merchandise

in December.  Brutal Bands has also ventured into promoting shows, and

may do more of that in the future.  Also, in the future, we're looking

at starting up or working with an existing zine.  And of course as

profits are made, and decent bands come along, we will be expanding our

releases.

Got any merchandise?  Tell us how can we get them?

Obviously there's our CD - "Dissecting The Angels".  We've also got

short and long sleeve shirts, and logo stickers.  All this merchandise

and other brutal death CDs can be purchased from our label's website at

www.brutalbands.net either via secure credit card orders, or by

downloading and filling out the mailorder form.  And of course all this

stuff can be purchased at all of our shows!  And if your wondering who

else sells Brutal Bands releases, just go to the distro section of the

Brutal Bands web site to see where the closest location is that sells

our releases - support your local scene!

Anything else you want to say? Or you want to add something? Last words? Anything?

Just wanted to say thanks to Never Ending Hate for everything!  Your

zine is the best!  The scene needs more people like you.  And after

reading Andrea's statement on your site (I love the taste of sperms when

it bursting out in my throat - cum in my mouth and swallow'em.....), I

really think a picture should be posted - hahaha.

If there are any labels/distros interested in making trades/purchases

for Brutal Bands releases/merchandise, get in touch at

[email protected].

Stay Fucking Brutal!!!
