Hi there…

Please introduce us briefly about HEAVYCORE biography.

Pete:  Heavycore began in 1998 when I was fed up with the metal scene in the US.  I knew that many bands had to be out there struggling and so I rounded up the few in our area (Illinois) that were heavy and started using the internet to find more.  We're over 850 bands to date!

Can you tell us why’d you decided to start HEAVYCORE?

Pete:  Well, I think I spoiled that one above.  I just hate posers and so Heavycore is an organized way to give them HELL.

What are you trying to achieve by starting HEAVYCORE?

Pete:  Slay all posers and promote great, heavy ass metal all the way!

Can you explain what’s HEAVYCORE is all about ? a zine, label, distro, or what?

Pete:  It's really a union of bands that is free to join.  We do reviews for the bands on the site, plus offer lots of advice, a message board to post gig dates/release info, and we now have a label called Heavycore Records to sell cds and t-shirst.  We also have a Shit List on the site with scum to stay away from that have ripped off our brothers.

Where’d you get the idea of this cool name - HEAVYCORE?

Pete:  Not sure - just brainstorming for a cool name.  It actually began as the American Nastiness Association, but I thought Heavycore was better - and simpler.

Can you tell us your favorite music, is it brutal death ? grind ? gore ? metal core ? thrash ? what ? and what bands do you listen to lately

Pete:  I love thrash/death metal and have since the mid 80's.  I play bass and sing in Low Twelve and you can hear what we're about to know what I truly dig.  http://www.lowtwelve.com/

Can you inform me, your top 10 old school / classic extreme bands?

Pete:  My favorite bands . . .  top 10?  Well - in no particular order:  Slayer, Testament, Carcass, Pro-Pain, SOD, Hatebreed, King Diamond, Obituary, Death, and Venom.

Tell us about the infamous CORE WAR compilation.

Pete:  Core Wars is an online or cyber battle of the bands.  Bands are paired off and their fans vote each week.  The bands with the most votes move to the nex round.  This is our second year doing it - it's fucking cool.

How’d you selected the bands who wants to join the comp.?

Pete:  Our compilations are called Core Til Death.  We've done 2 so far.  The bands who pay the fee, and submit on time get on as long as they're Heavycore.  We keep it fair and open to all.

Did you asked them?

Pete:  We open them up to all the membership.

Do you have special standards?

Pete:  Just to get into Heavycore you have to pass our screener.  It's got to be brutal, heavy, and not trendy at all.  No nu metal crap gets in.  If they're in the Core, then they're good enough to be on the compilations or in Core Wars.

Have you ever been put out a show/gig ? if you haven’t, is there any plan be a promoter of a show/gig?

Pete:  We've put on many shows, we call them Heavycore Poser Roasts.  We've done a few in the Midwest and two in California.  We encourage bands to network and gig exchange.  That's one of the reasons I started the Core.

I noticed inside your site, you have some interviews and reviews.

Pete:  Yes, we've been doing them for a while.  It's a good way to give the members more press.

How’d you choose the bands that you want to review or interview?

Pete:  We open it up to the members - if they send in a cd to review, we'll check it out.  The interviews are done on a random basis and if someone has a new cd or tour coming up.

Tell me, how important are the "extreme metal" or underground extreme music to yourself?

Pete:  I honestly don't stay up on the new stuff so much.  That's why I've got people screening that are more close to that stuff.  I don't like much of what I hear to be honest.

Do you think its not more than music or do you think it’s a lifestyle or what?

Pete:  If you're a real metal head, it consumes you for sure.  I've been die hard for a while, but we all have to pay bills and eat - so reality does rear it's ugly head from time to time.

Please tell me your opinion about MTV.

Pete:  It's gay.

Do you consider certain underground extreme metal bands who appeared on MTV are POSERS or false or fake ? or you have another opinion or you just don’t give a fuck?

Pete:  Not at all!  If they can get their message out and keep playing heavy stuff - more power to them.

What do you think of the nu metal genre thesedays ? do you think they’re metal ?

Pete:  Fuck no - I hate it all.

Please give me your opinion about below bands (please describe 1 by 1) :

SLIPKNOT - stupid WWF metal - the masks are lame

MUDVAYNE - same as above, subsitute masks for make up or whatever they are doing now

LIMP BIZKIT - rap metal bullshit

MUSHROOMHEAD - don't know - don't dig the mask thing here either although I heard they were doing it before Slipknot

AMERICAN HEADCHARGE - saw them with Slayer and they sucked ass

SOULFLY - Max was better in Sepultura, but I don't follow these guys at all

STATIC X - I really don't know much about them other than the singer has some fucked up wild hair thing going on

HEAVYCORE known as 1 of the extreme media who declare war against posers.

Can you describe "POSERS" in your own word / meaning / definition?

Pete:  A poser is a person who pretends to be something they're not.  A band wagon jumper.

Can you explain what the bands or people have to avoid in their personality, attitude and lifestyleto be NOT CONSIDERED POSERS?

Pete:  Just being real and playing good metal rooted in the heavy stuff.

Can you recommend some cool extreme bands from your area that you think everyone gotta check’em out?

Pete:  The Breed of Sedition, Antipathy, Slugtrail are a few that come to mind.

What do you do beside HEAVYCORE ? hobbies ?

Pete:  I spend time with my wife and kids, plus I do lots of writing.  I am working on a book called This Side Toward Enemy with artist Jeff Gaither.  It's going to be wicked.  My band Low Twelve wrote the soundtrack and we're shooting a film with it too.  It's going to be intense!

What you more into, Porn ? Horror movies ? Gore movies ? why?

Pete - PORN - it's all American!<

Blowjob or doggy style ? why ??

Pete - neither - sodomy is great . . . very raunchy and nasty for sure.

Any short plans term for HEAVYCORE ?

Pete - continue plugging away and expand thee label if we can.  Our newest release, "Maggot Ridden Rotting Movie" from Low Twelve is really slamming!  http://www.thissidetowardenemy.com/

Got any merchandise ? like what ? how can the people buy’em ?

Pete:  They can go to www.lowtwelve.com/hcrecords.html and buy t-shirts and cds!

Anything else you wanna say/add ? Last words ? Shout outs ?

Pete:  Thanks to all the real metal freaks out there!  Visit http://www.heavycore.org/
