Hail to DAUNTLESS, Please inform us shortly about Dauntless and the members.

Santeri: Dauntless was founded in 1991 with a different name. We have recorded five demos during 1995-2003. On the first two demos there were only three members: Sami, Tuomo and me. In 1998 Riku joined the band as lead guitarist. The next line-up change was when Ari joined the band as lead vocalist in 2002.

What's the band do recently ?

Santeri: At the moment we are practising and writing new songs for our upcoming release. We are also updating our home studio.

Who choose to use the name "DAUNTLESS" ? is there any special meanings or reasons ?

Santeri: We chose the name because it was the best we could find. No special meanings.

Who wrote the most for the music ? and who wrote the lyrics and inform us the inspiration.

Santeri: Me and Sami usually write the songs and the other guys bring their ideas when we are ready. I write most of the lyrics. I get most of my inspiration from the stupidity of mankind! It’s a very good subject because I see it every day!

What are you goals by forming Dauntless ?

Santeri: The reason why Dauntless exists is that we love to play fast and furious metal. Our main goal as a band has always been to get a record deal. I think we are very close now!

Can you please inform us about the songs "War without blood" and "All world's hate" is all about ?

Santeri: “War Without Blood” is about hi-tech wars that are mainly controlled by crackers. “All World’s Hate” is just a bonus track that has very cliche lyrics with no special meaning:)

Can you inform us your influences ? and tell us your top 5 all time fav

metal bands

Santeri: My top 5 would be (not in any particular order): Stone, Annihilator, Grip Inc., Cannibal Corpse and Sepultura (old).

Ari: This is hard because I like so different kind of bands. These will change in time to time but hmm... well here it goes: Blood Red Throne, The Crown, The Haunted, Sepultura and Danzig.

Hailing from Finland, you've must have know Amorphis, Impaled Nazarene, Deepred and Rotten Sound. Please give us your personal opinion about those bands.

Santeri:

Amorphis: “Tales from the Thousand Lakes” is a very good album. I don’t like the new style that much.

Impaled Nazarene: They have great songs but not my favorite band.

Deepred: One of the better Finnish death/grind bands. I played with them few months.

Rotten Sound: Best Finnish grind core band. Fucking awesome live band!

Ari: I agree with Santeri.

Finland have a very strong elements of black death metal, how does it affect your music ?

Santeri: We’re not that much into black metal. Well, I still like bands like Dark Funeral and Marduk but nowadays I prefer death/thrash metal.

Ari: I know lots of people from black metal bands like Gaurithoth, Alghazanth and Funeris Nocturnum but I like only few bands in the black metal scene. These bands that I mentioned are quite good.

Anyway, what do you defined your music ?

Santeri: Our music is death/thrash metal. It’s really that simple!

Do you consider that the Nu metal genre thesedays is metal ? do you think Slipknot is metal ? can you give us your personal opinion about this Nu metal genre.

Santeri: I don’t consider NU metal as metal. Slipknot is OK but I don’t think they belong to the NU metal scene anyway.

Ari: Yeah the NU metal thing is quite popular nowadays and I think that even Slipknot is very popular these days it’s not NU metal. To me it’s quite the same if you play death, black, NU or what ever metal as long as you play it yourself and don’t use any playback shit like in pop and techno music.

I got the info that Soulfly have played in Tuska metal fest. What is you opinion about this band and what do you prefer soulfly or old Sepultura

Santeri: I definately prefer old Sepultura! I don’t own any records from Soulfly or from Sepultura after the “Roots” album. Soulfly’s show was OK in Tuska because they played old Sepultura songs.

Ari: I like Soulfly even they don’t play any Sepultura songs and actually in Soulfly’s point of view I think its quite stupid to play so much Sepultura songs because it gives the feeling that they want to be sure that there is lots of people to see them. I think that they would still have fans like me even if they wouldn’t play Sepultura at all. Of course it’s always great to hear some Sepultura hit songs but like I said I like specially the first Soulfly album a lot and hope that they will keep playing and touring.

I even have a Soulfly tattoo on my right arm.

Whats your opinion about the the US brutal death scene and music ? please explain.

Santeri: I like it a lot! Of course there’s too much bands that sound alike but I think it’s a good scene anyway. Bands like Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse and Nile ispire me a lot.

Ari: Yeah it’s great! Dying Fetus and Origin are my favorites.

Back to Dauntless, is there any label interested to co-operate with

Dauntless yet ? or you have other plans ?

Santeri: We don’t have a “real” record deal yet but there has been interest from one label from Canada. It’s up to us what we’ll do. We don’t know yet.

Ari: Yeah, doors are still open.

Have you ever recorded a cover song ? if you have not, is there any plan to cover a song ?

Santeri: We haven’t recorded any cover songs yet. We have played our version of Pelle Miljoona’s “Moottoritie on kuuma” (Finnish punk rock song) on our gigs but it costs too much to get the rights for recording it.

If you have the chance to put out a show, what bands do you wan to share the stage with ? Do you play often I Helsinki, Finland ?

Santeri: I think Cannibal Corpse or The Crown would be pretty ideal. Maybe Slayer?

Ari: Well those what Santeri mentioned or Blood Red Throne.

Have you ever heard about Indonesian extreme metal scene ?

Santeri: I don’t know any bands from Indonesia but I have heard about your scene.

Ari: No I haven’t but sure would like to hear bands from every scene as much as I can.

What do you guys do beside the Dauntless ? working ? college ? hobbies ?

Santeri: I work as a graphic designer and run my own graphic design company. Tuomo and Riku are studying and Sami is working at the warehouse. Our homestudio is my most time and money consuming hobby.

Ari: I sell computers for work. Main hobbies are: lifting weights, playing drums, learning to make movies.

Please inform us you plans for the near future

Santeri: We are going to write loads of new songs and hopefully record them soon! Of course we will also play as many gigs as we can.
