Interview by Donnie. Answered by Jamie-vocals and bass player in BRODEQUIN.

Fucking enjoy it people !

Please inform us of the current lineup
Hey whats up Jamie here, well we have a new lineup it's myself on Bass/Vocals,Mike on Guitar and our new drummer Jon Engman

Please inform us your main reason about forming Brodequin.
I thought that we could put out good material and have a little different image than most death metal bands, expressing different lyrical inspiration and musical.

What would you like to express through Brodequin's music ?
We would like to express power and aggression coupled with the brutality of the lyrics I think it makes a good combination that most fans of death metal can get into

Can you tell us what is the meaning of Brodequin and who came up with that idea ?
The Brodequin was a French torture technique used throughout the 16-17th Century designed to destroy the victims legs, the legs were placed in a large type of box, the legs were bound tightly together and separated by boards. Then wedges of steel or wood were driven in-between the legs and the boards separating them which crushed the legs, and usually resulted in death from infection.

your lyrics are mostly inspired by the torture art back
in the medieval years when the people used to tortured Christian martyrs.
Who got the idea about this ?
I did, I do a lot of historical research and found the subject to be very interesting and that Christians as well as other religions and people of no religion were all tortured and executed for their beliefs or various political reasons.

Why did you choose "torture" as the inspiration for the lyrics ? Where did you get the references
Well I find the whole process interesting, and all of the instruments used during the ordeal, as well as the political effects of being merely accused of heresy or whatever "crime" that you would find yourself accused of. I read a lot so I have many books on the subject as well as documentary videos.

Please inform us of your album so far
So far with Jon we have written 3 new songs and will more than likely record this spring, the new material is some of the best material we have ever done, its much faster and complex I'm really looking forward to releasing the new album.

Please tell us about your label, Unmatched Brutality records and its releases

The label is run by our guitarist Mike, and so far he has released Brodequin-Festival of Death, Retch-Reinsertion of Aborted Remnants, Retch-Ben Wa babyheads, Cumchrist-Cumplete and some releases that are not released yet. Cerebral Effusion, Inveracity

Is it hard of being in band and also run a label ? Do you run the label all
by yourself or do you have staff(s) helping you ?
Mike runs all of it by himself pretty much, he has his girlfriend help a lot and I do all of the Graphic work for him, so he has help but does all of the business side of it on his own.

What your terms & condition to any band who would like to get signed
with UBR ? Do you have any special / particular specifications / classifications about that ?
Mike is really putting a lot of importance on recording quality and production, and of course he has to like the music..the more brutal the better, but that's about it really

Now back to Brodequin, tell us about the Brodequin's musical influences..Can
you also tell us your top 10 fav. Old school death metal bands and your top
10 fav. Current death metal bands..Do you always listen to extreme metal ?
Well speaking for myself my favorite old school bands I would say Suffocation, Carcass, Napalam Death, Morbid Angel, Brutal Truth, Entombed, Autopsy, Dead Infection, Sinister.
As far as new bands go Last Days of Humanity, Inhume, Disavowed, Disgorge, Malignancy, Aborted, Impure, Cephalic Carnage, Severe Torture, Pyaemia, I listen mostly to extreme metal but also listen to other styles now and then.

Please tell us your opinion about the Nu metal genre thesedays… Do you think
bands like Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Mushroom head, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Coal
Chamber, Staind, Adema, Static X, POD, etc are metal bands ?
Well I do not like the new metal style at all!! I think some of those bands are metal just not extreme metal, like they would consider themselves, the most extreme one of those bands listed would be Marilyn Manson because of his anti religious stance.

Since your lyrics are about "torture", in your personal opinion, what is the
perfect torture for the people who are faking and posing that they're death
metal people but the ideology & attitude does not reflecting any ideology &
attitude of death metal way of life. How would you like this person to be
tortured ?
SLOWLY...haha any number of ways would be appropriate for these types, but preferably something that revolves around public humiliation.

Inform us about the Brodequin's musical gear / equipments and why do you choose those equipments ?
Mike and I use Ibanez guitar and Bass they're good instruments and they don't cost a fortune to own, Mike also uses Marshall amps I use Carvin Bass amps and a Sansamp for a pre-amp. And for vocals I use Sennheiser microphones.

How's the scene in your local area ? Do you play a often in your area ? Also
can you tell us some bands from your area that you think are cool to check out
We have never played in our area just because there is no scene here at all. There are a couple of other bands but they never do anything or release material so I guess we are pretty much it..except for Enter Self, they play kind of slam metal.

What the sickos in Brodequin do beside the band ?
Mike runs the label and that is his job as well, Jon works in a Music store and I am a student studying Graphic Design.

Can you tell us some bands that you really want to share the stage with and why ?
Napalm Death just because they are such a big influence and they are still doing it! But also tons of European bands Impure, Last Days of Humanity, CBT, Dead Infection, Disavowed, Severe Torture, Prostitute Disfigurement, Pyaemia, Sinister..just to name a few

Also can you tell us some bands that you really want to cover their songs...
We already have covered Last Days of Humanity and Dead Infection, we are also going to do an Excruciating Terror song, but we never really plan to cover a song it just comes along in conversation.

What do you know about the Indonesian death metal scene ?
I know there is a lot of brutal bands in Indonesia such as Total Rusak, Bloody Gore just to name a couple it seems there are many bands and stores in your country that deal with death metal (you damn right, Jamie !)

Please inform us your short term & long term plans for Brodequin. And also
inform us your plans on Unmatched Brutality Records
Well we are concentrating on writing the new album. And then TOURING! We have a couple small tours here in the U.S. and then we have talked to IMPURE about a tour in Europe in 2004 which would be great!
As far as the label goes mike has a couple of releases ready to go and then a couple after that, so he's really busy with that, and as usual he will be looking for more bands.

Do you got any merchandise ? like what ? how & where can the people get'em ?
Yeah you can find our merch at www.brodequin.com or www.unmatchedbrutality.com

What do you guys into beside the brutal death metal music, maybe computers ?
porn ? horror movies ? collect something ? or something else ?
Yeah I'm into horror movies, porn is always cool and I work on a computer every day I cant really think of anything I collect just CD's I guess haha

Well, I guess that's all for now. All the best & good luck with Brodequin &
Unmatched Brutality records. So, anything else you wanna say / add ? Last words ?
