Trenches on The Web. This
is the big site on the web with many other links to other places.
Spartacus is an educational resource for schools. Includes a 3d recreation of a trench and encyclopedic pages about the war. In my opinion this is the best place to start if you know nothing about the war, as it is well laid out, easy to navigate and extremely well-written.
This site is available at both the Kansas University and Oxford University. One of the best reference sites on the web with memoirs, letters, essays and large photographic archives.
Oxford University Award winning academic site with online tutorials, as well as the Manuscripts of "Anthem For Doomed Youth", alternative poets (including a large section on women's poetry during the war), and trench songs.
The Western Front Association. Another excellent place to
visit, the Western Front Association focuses more on straight military history.
In particular, the message board is an excellent place to discuss every aspect
of the war, and it's posters are both helpful and friendly to novices and
experts alike. Anyone thinking of researching the war should use this site
extensively! The Association produces the magazine Stand To! (find out
more here),
which is also highly recommended.
The Great War Another large and very comprehensive site, although quite graphically intensive and takes a while to download
The Heritage of The Great War. Dedicated to more unorthodox articles and aspects of the war, this site has a huge area devoted to music-hall and marching songs
Horrible Homepage. Scholastic Books' site devoted to Terry Deary's Horrible Histories.
Tideway School in Lancing. The pupils there carried out some excellent research and have published it here. Also includes
Trench recordings (not currently working)
Image Archives.
The World War One Image Archive Extensive archive for photos from a variety of fronts and many different
armies.
Propaganda Postcards of the Great War. A large and frequently updated site devoted to propaganda postcards, including sections on Bairnsfather and Punch. The site also features several short articles about the nature of propaganda postcards during the war and their possible effects. .
The Great War Society - Cartoons.
More cartoons from The Great War Society Pages.
The Roger.N.Mochovich Collection of British War Posters
Loads of propaganda posters in an online gallery
which is regularly rotated.
