| The School Resource Officer Program started in Nevada during the 1998-1999 school term. The program is similar to those that have been in existence since the mid 1950's. The Resource Officer is responsible for all police related activites involving the schools to which he/she is assisgned. The officer establishes rapport with the students, parents, and faculty and as a result, becomes a resource for the whole community. The Resource Officer is a commissioned Nevada police officer and is directly accountable to the Chief of Police. The Resource Officer works a total of 9 Nevada R-5 School District campuses with a total current student population of over 2700 students and 350 staff members. The grades he works range from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Along with his school duties, he teaches D.A.R.E. and participates in the Safety Town Program. |
