OUR NEW RESCUE TRUCK
The Nevada Fire & Rescue is proud to be purchasing a custom-built medium rescue truck. This unit can be sent out at the first sign of an emergency. It could be used for a vehicle accident, construction or building collapse, or hazardous chemical release. This truck will be capable of carrying all of the Hazardous Material (HazMat) and rescue gear that would be needed in the first few minutes of a call. It will also have a built-in generator to provide on-site electric power for lights, pumps and fans. The built-in hydraulic hose reels can power a wide range of rescue tools, such as the "Jaws of Life", and on-board air tanks can re-fill rescue workers breathing apparatus. A movable winch allows the firefighters to pull from all four sides of the vehicle, which can help with overturned cars. Grant funds will allow us to add camera and communications gear to a 30 ft mast. If necessary, the crew can look down over an accident scene or hazardous material spill, and we can send video back to dispatch and our emergency operations center. We can connect on- scene emergency workers directly into the public safety phone system from the field, or we can access the internet from the scene to research chemical response data.
