Why do I use tarot cards?;
Because it's a nice tool for when you need some advice.
To tell the truth I don't really believe that the
tarot cards are always right, I use them for guidance but mostly
just for fun.

I got my first deck when I was 12 or 13, and like just about everyone
else that does tarot card readings I've got a big fat book on tarot to
help me out.

How did I stumple upon this? The question to that is pretty easy, I've
got a crazy family, and an aunt that works with alternative medicine and
uses gemstones tarot cards etc etc, so yeah I think that's where I got
it from. And besides, I've always been fascinated by the occult, things
that can't be explainded and stuff that is supposed to have a so called
"magic". I had to buy 5 decks before I found one that was right for me,

I'm not going to pretend I know all there is to know about tarot cards
but I do know a bit, so I'll try and share with you some hints & tips
I wish someone could have shared with me.

Where do I find a tarot card deck?
Tarot card decks are usually to be found in bookstores or little occult
shops. The sad thing though, is that there's usually not too much to
choose from, they usually have a deck or two. What I would recommend you
to do if you're buying a new deck (or especially if you're buying your
first deck) is to visit www.aeclectic.net. They have pictures of hundreds
of different decks. When you find one you like be sure to write down the
name of the publisher and the deck, and ask your local bookstore if they
can order it for you. It's much more safe that way. Or, you can
always order it online if you prefer that.

I've been told that you are supposed to be given your first tarot card
deck as a gift, is that true?

Yes, a lot of people believe that's the way it should be done. Some don't
agree to that at all (and I'm one of them..). My first deck was given to me
as a gift, but it doesn't work any better than the ones I bought for myself
From what I've experienced this is more of a myth, and very few of those I
know that do readings, follow this.

my friend tod me that I have to wrap my tarot cards in silk when he gave them
to me or its bad luck. Ive heard something like that b4 but it sounds fake. IS
that true?

That's just a personal preference, you don't HAVE to wrap your cards in silk.
I wouldn't use silk because of the way it's made, but that's a whole different
story belonging in the animal rights section. *smiles*. Wrap your deck in
whatever feels right for you. Right now mine is in a little wooden box.

Can you do readings for someone online?
I know a lot of people do that, I've only done it once but most say it
works. This is something you'll figure out for yourself, but yes there are
lots and lots of people who do online readings.

What is the difference between the different tarot card decks?
Usually it's just the design, though some decks might have some of the
cards switched, and "death" may be replaced with "change" though it's
still the same card. However there are some decks that contain less cards
than a usual deck, but still calls itself a tarot card deck. So be aware
that the deck you buy contains 78 cards, unless you're looking for a deck
with less cards. This is another reason why www.aeclectic.net is useful,
as it gives you information about everything like this before you buy
the deck.

I've heard that Rider White is the easiest deck for beginners, is
this right?
This is somewhat right, as a lot of books about tarot cards use the Rider
White deck as an example. This was the first deck I got, and I liked it
although I didn't think the symbolism was that great. All in all I didn't
think it was an easy deck to understand at all, so I most likely wouldn't
recommend this as a beginners deck. What I would recommend was to go through
aeclectic, and find a deck that tells you something, a deck with pictures
you like and think are easy to interpret. This is highly individual, but
some of the decks that are recommended for beginners are; Rider White,
Sacred Circle.

Can I do a reading on myself?
Of course you can but it's not always a good idea to do your own reading
since you could influence the card to give you what you want or hate.
It is better if you get someone else to do it when your a begginer. Some
never learn to do readings on themselves, I'm probably one of them, I
always think of what I want to cards to say and this doesn't match with
the way I do readings and they often doesn't turn out very accurate.

well im juss startin at this does anybody have anythin they can tel me to
help me get started ?

I can always give you some advice, but it's different for everyone,so what's
right for me might not be right for you. But I'll tell you about the mistakes
I did, and how it took me 8 years to do it 'right'.
First of all I bought a book, and a deck. I wasn't too happy about the deck,
big mistake! And following the book was a catastrophy. What I wish I did;
was to buy a deck that felt right for me. Then sit down with the deck,
look at every card and find out what they're telling me. It's a great way
to learn, and I've found it to be more accurate than any of the readings
I've done before. I just look at the card and know imedeatly what it's trying to tell me.
Instead of using the ordinary spreads, I usually just place 6 cards on the table,
and if they all or most of them turn out to be past (no there's no spesific cards
that show the past, I just KNOW by looking at them if they're the past, present or
future) I just lay some more cards..
as I said, I've found it a lot easier and more accurate to do it that way :o)

What's the best spread to use?
A lot of people use the celtic cross and think that is the best spread,
me myself don't use spreads at all. I just put 6 cards on the table, and
if I feel like I need more cards I use more cards. There are tons of
different spreads, and like with a lot of things with tarot it varies from
person to person what you prefer. Try out some different ones, and I'm sure
you'll find a favorite one. You find different spreads in books, or you
can take a look on here.

Does the Death card mean I/someone I know is going to die?
NO! The meaning of the death card is mainly changes/rebirth. It usually
doesn't indicate physical death.
