The Bryggen ship
The shipparts was found during excavations at the medieval Bergen docks. More than 50 parts from the ship has been found. The ship was in use during the first half of the 1200's. The parts was used for constructing buildings after the townfire of 1248 in Bergen. The ship was probably a busse, which means it was one of the largest Norse merchandise ships ever built. In fact larger than the contemporary Hansa ships. The length was at least 30 metres, and it was 9-10 metres wide. It was built of pine(furu), which means it most likely was Norwegian made. A busse could have two masts.
