OREGON HO!

These are a few of the pictures from an old bike tour through the Pacific Northwest.

I started at Portland, rode along the Columbia to Astoria, then down the coast to Lincoln City

Scappoose airport has a nice little camping area if you're in the area.
It's a little ways off Highway 30 on the river side of the road.
The bivy tent was a homemade experimental model.

One of the landings along the Columbia River NW of Portland.

Climbing out of the Columbia River valley on my trusty steed.

Some of the last sunshine I would see for a few days.
I reached Astoria that night and pitched the tent in the start of a four day intermittant drizzle.
Being smart I had planned to ride North to South to take advantage of what were supposed to be the prevailing winds.

Four days of rain and headwinds.
What fun. At least this section has some room to ride.
Some of those roads are great fun with 3" shoulders and passing log trucks.
Yes, I know what the law says about right-of-way but I prefer not to be a MACKGrill burger.

The scenery was excellent even in the wind and rain.
Some of the most spectacular views from the highway were totally fogged in.
I would pull off to a scenic overlook, stare into a wall of fog,
and listen to the waves break on the invisible rocks below.

These were down in the Cape Lookout State Park Area.
Hint: Bring Mosquito repellant, industrial strength.
Once you get off the beach the mosquito's in this area can be quite friendly.

If you have any questions or comments just send me a message, I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Adios!

Ready for more scenery?
Then swim on back to the reef.
