This weeks net-ibles include dancing bears to the truly awful. Let's begin.
First, let's have a look at the Earth from above with lots of satellite images
from iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/cool.html.
This site offers all sorts of views of our hemisphere including weather
patterns, some with zoom capability & fire weather links. Very interesting for
the weatherbug
in your home, which segues nicely to another site,
www.weatherbug.com, which, with a free subscription, installs a small
temperature indicator at the bottom right hand corner of your windows screen
(next to the time), that stays current when you are online. You can click on it
anytime and check your local weather conditions (mine is connected to the small
weather station at Caywood Elementary) and includes things like barometric
pressure, wind speeds, forecasts, radar and even live cameras mounted
conspicuously around the US. I've been using this service for at least a couple
of years now and have gotten so used to it, I rarely watch the weather on TV.
Representing the world of weird this week, we have the "Awful
Music" site. Best I can tell, the creator of this exciting spot checks out
local lounge acts and he offers small recordings and a review. I don't think the
acts in question intend to be featured here, as the name suggests. (the music
was awful, though)
Worst of the web takes on the
similar task of reviewing web sites, and as the name implies, has equal love for
the examples listed there. I suppose it might pay to check out some of these
just so you'll get an idea how not to design your own web pages.
Finally, if you're into mysteries like the Shroud of Turin and the pyramids OR
good old 'Conspiracy' favorites like cattle mutilations and the infamous
'Philadelphia Experiment', then your next journey to cyber-space MUST include a
visit to "Weird Mysteries."
Here, the author searches out the strange and interesting mysteries on land,
sea, and space. Actually, not taking anything away from the title, it's got
quite a bit of useful information, pictures, and links that should provide many
minutes of fun for old and young alike.
I should have a site by the weekend to archive these articles, and, hopefully,
make checking out the sites mentioned a lot easier, since some of them have such
long addresses. I do have the address:
surf.to/nethotspots (no www). Be sure to check it out later in the week
(when you have too much time on your hands, yeah, right).
And keep your suggestions coming ([email protected]), I sure do appreciate
your input.
Until next time, Happy Surfing...
