Location : Phra That Phanom Temple ia in That Phanom district 76 km. from the provincial capital.

It is one of the country's most important places of worship, for the people on both sides of the Mekong. According to the Urangkhathat legend, the stupa was built by five state rulers to enshrine Buddha's breast bone relics brought here by the monk Maha Kasapa in the year 8 B.E. (535 B.C.). The monument's decorative brick slabs, dated to the 10th century, bear carvings of these princes'stories.

The stupa has been restored seven times, some with contributions from rulers of Lan Xang. After its collapse on August 11, 1975, its reconstruction was undertaken and completed in 1977.
